Lufthansa has unveiled another special-edition World Cup duck in its First Class Terminal in Frankfurt. Time to head off to Frankfurt?
Sporty 2022 Lufthansa World Cup Duck
I’ve collected rubber ducks from the Lufthansa First Class Terminal for 15 years, but 2021 and 2022 were particularly special with a coronavirus duck, Christmas duck, and a trio of birthday ducks now part of my collection. As much as we are trying to be minimalists at home, there’s an admittedly odd allure over airline-related mementos like the Lufthansa ducks or KLM Delft blue houses (I’ve tried to explain myself here).
I’m not about to commit to spending the money or miles for a Lufthansa First Class trip every time there is a new duck on the market, but of course there is a bit of excitement each time a new duck is released.
To commemorate the FIFA World Cup in Doha, Lufthansa has released a new special edition duck. This time, the duck is wearing a blue jersey with a white headband while holding a football (or as we say in America, a soccer ball).
I picked up a World Cup duck from the First Class Terminal in 2018 (the last World Cup), which took place in Russia. In fact, I picked up several and am willing to make a trade if anyone is interested…
In reality, I am not a sports fan and so this duck does not have nearly the sentimental pull that the corona duck or Christmas duck did. That said, I am considering a trip in Lufthansa First Class next month (hopefully not a repeat of last year…) and wonder if that trip was timed just right in mid-December if I could score both a World Cup duck and a Christmas duck?
We’ll have to see. Truth be told, there are too many exciting things going on right now to get sidetracked by the duck…life has been busy, but in a positive way. So I’m not going to sweat this one. But that won’t stop me from thinking about it!
CONCLUSION
Should I jet to Germany just to pick up the latest rubber duck from the Lufthansa First Class Terminal? The answer is no, at least not in this case. That’s not the precedent I want to set nor is it how I wish to spend my miles and money at the present moment.
But I love these ducks and love that Lufthansa has now debuted a new duck to commemorate the 2022 World Cup.

your inner voice saying “I command you to get that duck!”
Loving the spelling mistake in the title!
Yikes!!!
Wasn’t here in time but already know what happened!
Just go for it, Matthew. But good luck getting F in LH these days! Even F4 two days out is not opening for me as of late…
Matthew, go for it!
I just found a rubber duck in a snow globe at the Christmas market in Vienna that will be for my daughter and future son-in-law.
I was there 10 days ago and was told there are no more ducks given. Where did you get the photo of this duck?
This is posted by the First Class Terminal’s Twitter account. There are still ducks. You have to ask your lounge attendant, not the shower attendant.
Picking the ball out of the back of the net, like the German team
I’ve got a few world cup ducks from last week. On Friday they still had some. Happy to trade the 2022 duck for a 2018 one. 🙂
Email sent! 😉
If I let the “should I do it” dictate what I do in life over the “I want to do it” voices, I would have a lot less fun in life. You do you, boo.
