We stopped for lunch at Rustique Boutique Hotel, well known for its selection of steaks, while on our helicopter tour. What a treat!

T-Bone Steak Lunch At Rustique Boutique Hotel In South Africa

From a proper braai to biltong snacks all day long, it is very hard to avoid red meat in South Africa. Thankfully, red meat suits me just fine and it did for everyone else in my party too. After touring a coal mine, we stopped for lunch at the Rustique Boutique Hotel on the outskirts of Middelburg in the province of Mpumalanga.

The helicopter simply landed on the lawn outside the restaurant and we walked in. I’ve flown to places for lunch before, but this was the first time I’ve taken a helicopter to lunch…

My South African friends frequent this place and know the owner, Philip Heyns, who personally attended to us during our lunch. I generally prefer beef tenderloin, but I was advised to order the more marbled ribeye or T-Bone and I did..and quite enjoyed it with a salad and baked potato.

I concluded lunch with a cappuccino (and an espresso for good measure).

I realize Middelburg may not be high on the must-see list for your holiday in South Africa, but if you are driving to Eswatini or Mozambique, it may well be on your way and is worth a stop.

The steak looks good but it’s not a ribeye; it’s a t-bone. The 2 are entirely different cuts.

    Read headline: “Ribeye Lunch….”

    See picture of zebra.

    Draw wrong conclusion!

The steak in your phone is NOT a ribeye, it’s a T-Bone.

Oh right, I meant to say T-Bone. Was too late last night when I was writing that…

STILL NO. A t-bone is a filet and NY Strip, which is not a ribeye.

Well, it was a T-Bone. That we can agree on!

Where can I get a T-Bone steak that is part ribeye and part filet? That sounds amazing.

Yeah, strip not ribeye. My bad.

Kindly fix the spelling of Eswatini (what you spelt as “Etswani”)

I originally just wrote Swaziland and should have kept it that way.

Matthew, I realize my question is not related to this discussion of which steak did you really enjoy, but did you experience any of the power shortages that are an ongoing problem for South Africa? Such seems to be a nation-wide issue, and even affects Cape Town for hours at a time. Have not seen you discuss that so far. Thanks.

Looks like you may have been eating Zebra or Wildebeest meat to me. LOL.
