Looks Like Opening of New Malaysia Airlines Lounge is Delayed

Matthew Klint Posted onFebruary 19, 2018February 19, 2018 8 Comments

Earlier today I published a review of the old Malaysia Airlines First Class Lounge in anticipation of the new lounge opening tomorrow. It now appears we will have to wait a bit longer to see the new lounge.

Earlier today the Malaysia Airlines Lounge website looked like this–

The Malaysia Airlines International Golden Lounge at KLIA’s Satellite Building will be fully operational effective from 5:00 a.m on the 20th of February 2018.

Malaysia Airlines looks forward to welcoming all guests travelling First and Business Class,  our Enrich Platinum and Gold members  as well as  our OneWorld Emerald and Sapphire members to our newly refurbished Golden Lounge.

The design concept of the newly refurbished Golden Lounge pays homage to Malaysia’s modern heritage, incorporating elements of Malaysian culture, arts, food and architecture. It also encapsulates Malaysia’s warmth and hospitality in an authentic and contemporary way.

Now the website says this–

Malaysia Airlines International Golden Lounge at the Satellite Building KLIA is closed for major renovation works effective 12 October 2017.

The upgrading of the Malaysia Airlines’ Golden Lounge is in line with ongoing efforts to improve the overall travel experience of our guests.

Thus, I think it is safe to say that if your’e traveling through Kuala Lumpur tomorrow, don’t expect to visit the new lounge.

CONCLUSION

I don’t think the opening date will be pushed back more than a few days, but we’ll see. Please leave a comment below if you are passing through KUL tomorrow.

So weird just yesterday morning the head of the Enrich program asked me if I’d be coming out to tomorrow’s lounge opening. Any chance the website reverted during an update? Have you reached out to MH to confirm? Thanks!

Matthew – I was in KL last night (2/19) prior to the LHR BA flight and I asked the staff at the entrance of the regional lounges and the latest they had heard was Thursday (2/22). Just one data point but figured I’d share

Your surprise at MH being poorly managed is amusing.

I asked the staff at the regional lounge today – maybe end of the month, maybe later…
