In Miami, it appears that your checked baggage is not safe on the baggage carousel. A man was captured on video purportedly rifling through unclaimed baggage and even trying on clothes and shoes to see what fit.
Man Rifles Through Unclaimed Baggage, Tries On Clothes – Just Another Day At Miami Airport?
Video shared by AFlyGuyTravels on Instagram reveals a man sitting in the baggage claim area of Miami International Airport going through multiple luggage bags (four bags, according to the person narrating the video). Inside, it appears he opens a purse or toiletry bag before casting it aside. He then finds some trousers and tries them on (they are way too small).
You have to wonder whether this is a joke…I mean how can someone be so bold? But this is Miami after all and based on the video narration, I do not think this was staged or a joke.
People saying why doesn’t anyone stop him… confronting mentality disturbed people is how you end up dead in that country.
A sad but conceivable statement. I encountered a homeless person ranting and cursing at me while walking to my car after landing at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) last week. I did not stop. I did not make eye contact. Instead, I just kept walking. Thankfully, he did not attack.
Not to absolve this Miami man from personal responsibility, but there is a great mental health crisis in this country and I really do not understand why neither party can find the will (together or alone) to come together and try to address it. Because scenes like this are no longer even all that surprising…and that is a tragedy.
As long as his “shopping” was valued at less than $950, this would only be a misdemeanor in California. And that is IF law enforcement was willing to do the paperwork that takes longer than for the guy to be released. Not worthwhile for most… No borders, decline of order…no worry, it’s all good.
It is catch and release or ignore in most liberal cities..
Florida…what can I say? It speaks for itself….
Blacks….what can I say?. It speaks for itself….
Horrible, but no different than what you said. Slandering an entire group of people because of the actions of one.
Maybe think next time. Or don’t.
Don’t be racist. It’s not the fact that he’s black that makes him scum it’s the fact that he’s poor.
Be classist not racist. F*ck the poor.
What an odd reply. Saying that Florida has its fair share of crazies (both housed and unhoused) is hardly a novel or offensive observation, nor is it prejudicial slander against a “people”. I was a Florida resident for a decade (and half my family still are) and I can tell you Floridians often say the same thing.
Any relation to Sam Brinton?
What I want to know is where was security and/or police. They are all over MIA. Having had my luggage stolen at SFO in August after a Canadian trip/Alaskan cruise where the perp was already in jail in Vegas for similar crimes when the SFPD traced her (my stuff was sold, and largely thrown out), I just don’t get why airports are so damn secure everywhere except in luggage areas where you can walk up and do whatever you like.
Looks like he’s homeless.
Airports are now the go to place for homeless in most cities and most don’t do a thing about it.
I don’t understand why it’s normal in US airports to collect checked bags where anyone off the street can just walk in and grab them. I’m pretty sure it’s not the case in most other countries. It just doesn’t make sense to me. The mind boggles every time.
I agree although it is common in a lot of places. I was just in Australia and domestic baggage claim was also open to the public there, same in most of Europe as far as I can remember.
I lost a luggage at MIA on New Year’s Day. It still hurts. The lost and found lady tried to be helpful but everyone else at AA and baggage claim really couldn’t give a hoot on how to help. My checked bag still had the tags and everything, too. My baby food and formula and clothes and suitcase was $600, down the drain.
