I try “Mexican” food around the world, often for sport, but rarely do I find excellent Mexican food or Tex Mex outside of North America. But I certainly found wonderful Mexican food in Siem Reap.
Best Mexican Food In Siem Reap, Cambodia
People will lament how uncultured I am that I stick to Mexican, Middle Eastern, or Medeterian food just about wherever I am in the world. Go ahead…I’ve been called much worse.
What I do know is that I seek out Mexican food around the globe and it almost invariably disappoints. But not so in Siem Reap. Not so at all. The “Taste of California in Siem Reap” did indeed make me think I was in eating in the Golden State.
Maybe Later Mexican Bar & Grill

11:00 am – 10:00 pm (daily)
Both outdoor and indoor seating was available, though the temperature seemed far too warm to eat outside. Three other tables were occupied at 7:00 pm, the busiest the restaurant ever got.
I was hungry…and began with three enchiladas (one with chicken, one beef, and one cheese). It was served with beans and rice, and it was so delicious that I was left still hungry…
…so I ordered a quesadilla with chicken Tinga.
Again, it was simply delicious.
You might recall my past trip report from Siem Reap from a decade earlier when I also sought out Mexican food. Then, we settled for a place called ¡Viva Restaurant!, right in the heart of the city where the Night Market is located and still open today.
It’s decent…but Maybe Later is the real deal…it’s worth a stop.
It certainly doesn’t look like Tex-Mex. Maybe California-Mex. You would know best on that. But it seemed to pass your taste test, which is the most important part.
Is it common for menus in Cambodia to show prices in USD? I wasn’t expecting that. Are the prices at this restaurant in-line with other restaurants in the area?
As in any commie country , one would want hard currency , and not the local money .
@Pat: USD is defacto currency in Cambodia.
First , pay dollar taxes to the commie local bosses . Then , take dollar profits to a U.S. bank in Thailand . Last , exchange dollars for local currency to pay employees .
Meanwhile , local population are serfs working for peanuts : in garment factories with Chinese and Korean managers, for example . Schools brainwashing the young , etc .
Time to leave your parents basement & go out & play with the other kids.
Time for some to read history , and talk to the escapees .
I think his parents leave the door locked.
Yes I agree. They do have the best Mexican food in town. I live across the street from them and I usually go on Taco Tuesday.
Nice! Any other recommendations in town for best massage and other great food? Coffee?
Mexican food is occasionally safe , if not in Mexico . If in Mexico , one’s odds diminish .
Food looked good, prices look incredible.
It must have still been incredibly hot at 7 pm, but I didn’t see your beverage order!
Medeterian food?
As you mentioned in a previous post there is an eclectic mix of eateries in SR both because of so many tourists as well as the expat community there. The town is packed with places to eat, I have never tried this place, but Angkor Tacos used to just be a cart on Sok San Road but they built out a little bit, and they make fantastic burritos and tacos considering you are in Se Asia. Bella’s Pizza (formerly Belmiro’s) is also a great place for western food. It actually might be harder to find good quality Khmer food than other cuisines in SR, amazingly.
“What I do know is that I seek out Mexican food around the globe and it almost invariably disappoints.“
Then why do you keep seeking it out, moron?
@Chi … +1 . Mexican food in Mexico itself would be an even bigger disappointment . I am especially averse to cucaracha flavouring .
Likely the safest Mexican food is “Amy’s Frozen” vegetarian enchiladas , made in US ,
@Matthew is March a good time to visit Siem Reap or is it too hot?
Choose dry season ( Dec – May ) , or rainy season ( June – Nov ) . Dry is hot ; rainy is hot + muggy .
Josh, I found March dreadfully hot…but tolerable after the sun went down. But it was dry and I appreciated that.
Did you check out Kroya on your trip? Incredible restaurant
My simple test has worked well for me. If the taco choices are only soft flour and crispy corn, then pass. I tried a place in Nantes, France because it had soft corn tacos. Was pretty decent. To be clear, this place didn’t serve what the French promote as tacos.
