While the hotel in Arona was not much, the coffee was tremendous: a great start to the day.

After an excellent morning meeting in a nearby town, we headed into Milan, about 45 minutes away. We’d be spending the weekend at the Park Hyatt hotel. It was well-earned rest after a busy week.

When I planned the trip, I did not even have to go out of my way to schedule meetings around a weekend in Milan. Like a match made in heaven, the meetings lined up perfectly, opening the perfect chance to spend two nights at the Park Hyatt Milan.

We stopped for another cappuccino and orange juice at a fueling station along the Autostrade, but made it into central Milan fairly quickly.

That’s when things slowed down. While I will not even go so far as to say I should have parked outside of town and taken in a train or Uber, driving was not pleasant. Many one-way streets and a lot of cars on narrow roads, despite a London-style congestion tax levied on all cars driven in the city.

Thanks to a combination of my Globalist status with Hyatt and using points for the stay, parking was also included at no extra charge. At 70EUR/night, this certainly offset the annoyance of driving into the city. I was upgraded to a beautiful suite.

I had not slept well the previous night and used the afternoon to rest. There’s nothing like an afternoon nap, especially in a comfortable bed with clean sheets.

Well rested, I sent out some email then headed down for an intensive workout and Turkish Bath…I had not exactly eaten healthy over the last several days.

I’ll publish a full review of this property in a separate post.

For dinner, we tried a place called Giacomo’s. It had been a meat-filled week, so I ordered sea bass. I would have loved to order salt-covered by Branzino, but my colleague does not eat fish and so I just ordered a smaller grilled portion off the menu. I could not resist some mushroom risotto prior to the fish, though.

The chocolate cake for dessert was decadent. Giacomo’s is a very “old school” Italian restaurant in Milan. I had actually wanted to dine in the two-Michelin starred VUN restaurant inside the Park Hyatt, but it was fully booked. Nevertheless, this was a great choice for dinner.

We walked back to the hotel, about 2km, to burn off some calories. The evening air was fresh and the walk (other than a drug dealer who tried to sell us hash) quite pleasant.

That’s much nicer looking food .
Look forward to the review of the PH, IMO one of the very best hotels in Europe.
