New 747 Interiors Coming to Delta

Matthew Klint Posted onSeptember 7, 2010 Leave a Comment

Delta Air Lines has announced plans to refresh the interiors of their 16 Boeing 747-400 aircraft. The old Northwest birds have not encountered an interior decorator in years. The cabin refresh is part of Delta’s $1 billion plan to improve their product image over the next few years. Conversions will not start until next summer and will take about a year to complete.

The new interior will feature AVOD at every seat, with 9" screens in economy and 15.4" screens in BusinessElite. Slimline seats will also be added to the economy cabin, meaning a bit more legroom (unlike AA, Delta is not adding in more rows) and some fuel savings for Delta.

Like Delta’s 777-200LR aircraft, the BusinessElite cabin will have fully-flat beds installed. The unavoidable downside to this move is fewer premium cabins seats: lie-flats take up quite a bit more room than recliner seats do. The 744s will see a decrease in BusinessElite seats from 65 to 48.

More details can be found on the Delta Blog.
