Once again, United Airlines has altered their snack box choices this month, available for purchase on most afternoon and evening flights longer than two hours. UA donates a portion of the snack box proceeds (though we don’t know how much) to a charity that fights breast cancer.
Not surprisingly, United has not updated the dining section of their website with the new choices, but I scanned in the images below from a new buy-on-board (BOB) menu found in each seatback pocket in economy class.
Here’s a look at the new choices:
While the “classic” and “lite” choices don’t look all that appealing, I’ve got to admit that the “tapas” snack box looks like a really nice snack, though the price is steep at $8.49. All three choices still have too much processed food for my tastes, but that is to be expected in an airline snack box.
There are a few other changes to the BOB menu as well. “Bundles” (alcohol + snack box or cheese tray or sandwich) can be purchased for 20% less than buying the items separately. Additionally, a new cocktail “Sunrise Sunset” (OJ, cranberry apple, vodka, and lime) is available and a chocolate bar and cranberry walnut bread have been added to the a la carte menu. Lastly, the only salad left on the menu is a chicken caesar salad.
UA’s BOB is a work in progress, but at least they finally have a snack box that looks downright tasty.
I had the Sunrise Sunset yesterday. It tasted great.
@John: I did too! It’s not a bad drink at all.
I wish UA had hot BOB like CO. If I get stuck in the back on CO I will try the Angus cheeseburger. The CO menu in the seat pockets is really nicely done too. I will try the new UA Tapas box sometime soon – it looks quite nice.
I really miss the old classic snackbox. The new one is crap. They got rid of my favorite items and introducted garbage instead.
@Mario: I miss the Mott’s Granny Smith Applesauce…
But don’t you think the tapas box looks pretty good?
New tapas box looks good… though, the price is fairly steep. Still really want the old “classic” box back. Why change a classic?
Tapas look great, tastes horrible. Learn about Mediterranean food before reviewing it. Sorry, olives stink and this is not hummus!
