New JetBlue TV Ad Pokes Fun at Checked Bag Fees

Matthew Klint Posted onOctober 25, 2010 3 Comments

Southwest was on to something when it started mercilessly attacking its legacy rivals for charging for checked bags. WN’s simple message that its passengers would not be nickeled and dimed seems to have resonated with travelers, even noting that leisure and other infrequent travelers dished out over $1.4BN to U.S. airlines in baggage fees alone during the first six months of this year.

Now JetBlue has decided to play along and offers this very humorous ad:

It’s a great ad–it had me laughing, but there is one thing that bothered me about it. Cabbies already charge for bags! Was that the point? One of the many reasons I dislike taxi drivers in urban centers around the world, though especially, cough, cough, in Washington, DC, is all the little charges that are tacked on, even as the cab drivers whine that Mayor Fenty has taken away their livelihood by telling them they can’t blatantly rip off tourists anymore. But I digress…

Another clever JetBlue ad.

So why does JetBlue charge the second bag? 😛

I assume this ad is targeted to the JFK market and no, the cabbies do not charge for bags in New York City.

Ok–that’s good to know. It’s $4 for a bag in the trunk in the District and it makes me mad just to think about it and all the lazy and crooked cab drivers…
