Review: No. 39 VIP Lounge Shanghai (PVG – T1)

The No. 39 VIP Lounge was a crowded Priority Pass Lounge with amenities very similar to the next-door No. 36 China Eastern Lounge.

No. 39 VIP Lounge Shanghai Review (PVG -Terminal 1)

While I am glad I checked out the adjacent China Eastern Lounge, the designated lounge for Korean Air passengers traveling out of Shanghai is this lounge…the No. 39 VIP Lounge (Priority Pass calls it the “first class lounge” but I did not see such signage anywhere).

Interestingly, I was given a pass to this lounge instead of the next-door SkyTeam Lounge when checking in for my flight to Seoul on a card that made it seem like it was a Korean Air Lounge.

You can find the lounge up the escalator (fourth level) from the Terminal 1 security checkpoints (turn either left or right, depending upon which checkpoint you use).

This lounge is open from 6:30 am to 10:30 pm daily is not only part of the Priority Pass network, but used by Air France, JAL, and Korean Air for premium passengers. It is also part of the Plaza Premium Lounge network and appears to be operated by Avinex, which is a Chinee state-owned enterprise that runs both Shanghai Pudong and Hongqiao airports.

Inside, I found a crowded lounge.

However, if you walk past the dining area there was additional seating in the back that was less crowded.

In the middle of the L-shaped lounge was a food area including self-serve beverages and a noodle bar plus a buffet with cakes, dumplings, sandwiches, and more drinks.

Augustine made himself a cappuccino but I did not eat anything.

Restrooms and showers were available (the restrooms were too crowded to take pictures nad the shower room was occupied).

While I find this lounge far better than sitting in the Terminal area, I prefer the China Eastern Lounge No. 36 next door.

I don’t let him have very much, though – I want him to grow taller than me!
