Review: Park Hyatt Jakarta (Luxury Hotel With Outstanding Value)

I spent two nights at Park Hyatt Jakarta, a lovely and inexpensive luxury hotel in the center of world’s most populous city that offers superb accommodations and amenities at an excellent price point.

Park Hyatt Jakarta Review – Luxury Hotel, Great Value

My nightly rate was $213, which represented excellent value for a five-star Park Hyatt hotel (keep in mind that the Park Hyatt New York or Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme can run 7-8x higher). Yes of course, location, location, location. This hotel is located on a fairly quiet side street in the Menteng area of Jakarta’s central business district.

Guest Of Honor Issue

I used a “Guest of Honor” award to enjoy Globalist status without being Globalist. Be warned that many Hyatt hotels, including this one, do not seem know what this is. Here, I was welcomed at an Explorist and told I had been upgraded to a deluxe room and could enjoy 2:00 pm checkout. I mentioned that I have a Guest of Honor applied and there seemed to be a look of confusion on the face of the agent checking me in. I think many Hyatt workers just think that Guest of Honor just means free breakfast.

My flight departed at 5:30 am from Jakarta so it’s not like I needed a late checkout and I wasn’t in the mood to dicker over a suite even though there were still many for sale…I wish the hotel had been more proactive, though, in offering one.

There was another issue concerning this later in the stay. I’ll address the generous Globalist “Social Hour” below, but I was told that, “Mr. Klint, we see you are an Explorist and as such, the “Social Hour” is not included.” When I noted that was a “Guest of Honor” you could see the absolute blank look on the face of the waitress.

However, to her credit, she clarified with reception and came back about five minutes later to apologize for the confusion.

Guest Room

My “regular” room, 2801, was very spacious and included a large bathroom divided into three distinct areas: a water closet, a shower, and a bathtub.

Finally, I appreciated the large bowl of fruit as the welcome amenity:

Spa + Wellness

One of my favorite amenities at this hotel was the wellness facility, which included a sauna, steam room, cold plunge pool, and whirlpool…all with great views of the Jakarta skyline an also very nice locker facilities.

Dining

The Park Hyatt Jakarta features several dining options and two bars.

Dining Room

The Dining Room is located on level 22 and offers buffet-style dining mixing Indonesian and Italian cuisine. Breakfast here was a treat, with an excellent buffet, a la carte menu, good coffee, and fresh-squeezed juices. Breakfast is served from 6:30 am to 10:30 am…I wish it went a bit later in the morning, but the I enjoyed everything I ate.

KITA 喜多 Restaurant

KITA is the hotel’s Japanese restaurants and offers “teppanyaki, shabu-shabu, tempura, robatayaki, sushi and sashimi.”

Room Service

24/7 room service is available from your room and I love that breakfast is available 24/7 (though Globalists do not have the option to eat in their room…the breakfast benefit is at The Dining Room only). I liked that menu items from Li Lián and KITA were on the menu. Menu here.

The Bar

This is a really classy bar with seating around the circular sunken bar in the center of the room. It’s just around the corner from the lobby on the 23rd floor.

If you’re sensitive to smoke, be warned that smoking is permitted indoors…such an anomaly these days, but still very prevalent in Indonesia.

The indoor/outdoor bar on level 36 includes nice patio seating with great views of Jakarta. Smoking is also allowed here indoors and outdoors.

The “Social Hour” was held at KITA Bar the first night.

“Social Hour”

A very nice perk for Globalist guests (or Guest of Honor guests) is a nightly “Social Hour” in which you can enjoy two drinks, including cocktails, and several appetizers/canapes. I thought this was really well done in the rooftop Kita bar the first night (since the main bar was closed on Sundays) and at “The Bar” on level 23 the second night.

On the first night, canapés included a beef pie, oyster, butternut squash soup, and a fried potato. I had a Moscow Mule and Negroni…both excellent.

a plate of food on a table

On the second night, I enjoyed watermelon topped with feta and pistachios, veal, falafel, and a creamy potato soup.

While I did not intend to make this my dinner, I was in no mood to go out for a large dinner after this.

Service

The service was very well-intentioned here and for the most part, excellent. Hopefully the hotel will train its staff on Guest of Honor perks, but beyond that every interaction was excellent.

When I wake up in the morning the first thing I do is seek out coffee and I appreciated that the The Dining Room was happy to offer me a cup to go to get my day started, even though I was not eating breakfast until later. While I would hav been happy to pay the few bucks for the coffee, it was nice not to be nickel-and-dimed.

CONCLUSION

Jakarta is not a the best city for tourism, but it is a great city for luxury hotels at a cheap price. With so many to choose from, hotels must compete on comfort and amenities and the Park Hyatt Jakarta does an excellent job in this respect. I would not hesitate to return for the breakfast and wellness facilities alone.

Rooftop, spa, pools, everything seems really nice. Between KL and this, PH is knocking it out of the park in SE Asia.

Excellent and thorough review. When you get around to writing such a review, how long does that aspect take?
