What Surprised Me Most About The Park Hyatt Maldives

I recently published an extended review of the Park Hyatt Maldives, but want to focus on one aspect of my stay that was most surprising: the food.

When I envisioned a private island so far secluded from even Malé that it required two flights and a boat to get to, I was not expecting culinary delights to await me. Heck, the resort even has its own time zone. I figured the food would be fine…but pale in comparison to the white sand clear water.

While the resort and its grounds were as beautiful as expected, I was simply blown away by the food. It was delicious. All of it. All the time.

Breakfast was a delight every morning, with baked goods worth of a German Bäckerei, ripe and fresh fruit, superb coffee, and a host of wonderful dishes from around the world.

But the best of the best was the fish. Dish after dish, night after night, my wife and I quickly agreed…we’ve never had fish that tasted this fresh.

The Hyatt Maldives is not for everyone…it certainly takes serious effort to reach. But once here, you are going to be very well-fed. In fact, like my wife and me, you may just have the freshest fish you’ve ever tasted. So go for the beauty, go for the seclusion, and go for the fish!

    That’s a marked improvement from the past. Good to know! When we went in 2016, they food was mediocre at best and insanely expensive, the most disappointing aspect of our stay.

      My stay was in 2016 as well (see link above to full review). It is indeed very expensive, but I was very pleased with the food and tend to be a very picky eater (unfortunately).

    This is interesting to hear. I was there in 2015 and the food was so terrible that it actually ruined my stay there. I ended up skipping most meals not because of the price, but just because all of the food was barely edible.
    Obviously I understand the issues with supplying food to such a remote island, but the whole time I was going crazy thinking that all they had to do to improve it was catch some fish and throw it on a grill!

    My wife and I were last there in late 2017 and plan to be there again later this year. I was struck last time by the offers to make just about anything for my very picky wife for breakfast. They brought in whole wheat pancake batter and made chocolate chip pancakes for her. The resort is amazing but the staff going the extra mile (by boat) really stands out to me.

    I also ate my weight in avocado toast across 10 days. Minus that raspberry nonsense.
