Pearl Lounge – Kuwait International Airport

Matthew Klint Posted onOctober 9, 2013December 9, 2016 1 Comment

Kuwait is a dry country and there were no exceptions in the Pearl Lounge, upstairs past security and passport control at KWI (an additional security check would occur at the gate). I had not eaten during my jaunt into Kuwait City, but was still full from my large pre-arrival meal on United so I skipped the generous food offerings—primarily Indian it appeared.

What I did find appealing, and perhaps got carried away drinking, was the fresh strawberry and mango juice—nothing but pure squeezed fruit and it was delicious and refreshing. 20 glasses later, I decided I must exert some self-control, also wishing to avoid a sugar high…

The lounge has was spacious and never got crowded during my two hour stay. The main part of the lounge is comprised of blue chairs with small tables between them but there is a dining area as well near all the food. Showers and a smoking room as well. I spent most of my time on the other side of the lounge in the work area, a mix of desks with a few desktop computers.

Internet was slow, but stable. Not fast enough for a Skype call, but did get a couple tickets booked, including my new flight from Istanbul to Baku.

The lounge had a library/book exchange at the entrance and a staff of three that was friendly and would make flight announcements, including for my Turkish flight.

If you like fresh fruit juice, this is your lounge. If you’re looking for alcohol, better to avoid Kuwait. Overall, a very pleasant rest stop on the way to Istanbul and far better than any domestic U.S. lounge in terms of food availability.
