Hotels Join The Peloton Revolution

Have you noticed that more and more hotels are offering Peloton equipment in their gyms?

Peloton Comes To Hotels

For years, I’ve attended spin classes at my gym and even before that have enjoyed using stationary bikes. But Peloton is a bit different. It may just look like a sleek exercise bike, but what sets it apart is the “community” aspect of it. You connect to live or pre-recorded workouts which can provide a lot more motivation than just listening to music. One friend told me, “It’s MUCH better in providing a complete portfolio of workouts where the bike is the center but not all. People are addicted and it really does suck you in!”

He added:

“If you don’t have one it’s probably difficult to comprehend the draw. I felt the same. I was like, it’s a freakin stationary bike, so what. It’s a lot more…the technology and the tracking of workouts, and the classes/instructors/community are incredible. You WANT to do this after your first ride.”

Over one million members from around the world can, at least in theory, work out together. On a more intimate side, in smaller settings you can interact one-on-one with instructors or even if you’re working out alone, the machine will help guide you to a more productive and thus beneficial workout.

Now hotels are joining the bandwagon. Three recent hotels I’ve stayed at–the Mar Monte in Santa Barbara, Andaz in West Hollywood, and Park Hyatt in Washington, DC–now offer Peloton equipment in the gym.

I tried it…and I liked it. I’m not hooked (yet) and don’t plan on buying one for my house, but it’s certainly not an ordinary stationary bike.

How To Check If Your Hotel Has Peloton Equipment

Peloton even has a section on their website where you can check if your hotel has it.

If your hotel does not have Peloton equipment, you can even “suggest” that it add it.

CONCLUSION

More and more hotels are adding Peloton bikes to their gyms. I like it…in a sense it reminds me of Apple CarPlay, where I can plug in my phone to just about any modern rental car and my customized settings are instantly populated. It’s a good concept and I think we will see it in more and more hotels in the months ahead.

Does Peloton equipment influence your choice of hotels?

I have a Peloton bike at home. I do like when hotels feature a Peloton bike or treadmill because I already have an account and can just log in. I enjoy running outside whenever possible more than I do being in a gym but Peloton is really good. They need to improve their Scenic Ride feature as they are becoming dated but that is about my only complaint other than the expensive price tag.

I am curious what the pricing is for hotels. My guess is that they are selling it close to the actual cost to manufacture the bike which must be just a faction of the ~$1,900 price. Viewing it as a marketing opportunity.

On the other hand, they might sell it near the retail cost, with the logic that high-end hotels will pay for equipment their clientele expect.

I have one at home. Love it. I am still not using gyms but some hotels provide Peloton guest rooms or, like the Four Seasons LA, have private bookable Peloton bikes in reconfigured solo workout areas that are disinfected after each use. Peloton works great for travelers as your stats, benchmarks, etc carry over when you log in.

While I often carry my clip ins, few hotels offer those pedals though. Mostly it’s the basket system which is fine but not as good.

I’ve been seeing them all over the place lately. Hyatt seems to (not-surprisingly) have a budding relationship with Peloton.

Could I give you some photos from the Santa Monica Proper to add to the story? They have the Peloton Bike and Tread.

Westin had a partnership with Peloton since 2017, even though I don’t think it was exclusive. I don’t think anything stops a hotel from buying a bike for its gym.

I was a skeptic, thought it was a bit cult-ish for years…got one at the start of Covid w/gym closed though, and 100+ rides later, I do totally get it now. They are great.

I just linked to your blog from one of my Peloton hotel articles that I’ve recently updated. Thanks for being a great resource.
