To round out my series on my summer trip to Malta, I’m posting a photo essay of our brief but pleasant journey to the island nation.
Malta 2023 Photo Essay
Many of these pictures appeared in my “windy” story yesterday, but for those who missed it, the photo essay below captures some of the highlights of my trip to Malta this summer.
We sat next to a Maltese man on our trip back to Frankfurt who lives in Las Vegas now but was born and raised in Malta. He lamented how much the island has changed and I bet it has changed…and probably not for the better in terms of crowds and real estate prices for locals.
St. Julian’s, where our hotel was located, is the party zone and it seemed like it was most teens and 20-somethings walking around, sometimes in a drunken stupor. We were fairly insulated at the Hyatt Regency, but still caught the noise from our terrace at night.
But I’ve got to say that I really liked the ease of transport (Uber or Bolt are cheap and always nearby), the laidback culture, and my entire family loved it.
Coming up, coffee and a review of the Hyatt Regency, before we return to Germany and then fly home on SAS.
This is part of my summer to Europe trip report.
Malta in August. Staying in St Julians…really bad choices, you get the absolute worst of crass, crowded, over-tourism. Look at your photos of streets literally jammed with tourists, shoulder-to-shoulder. My idea of Travel Hell. You could not pay me enough to go through that.
We had a great time. I’ve also been in November. I like summers in Malta.
Love Malta! It often does not get mentioned as an excellent destination. One of my favorite places in Europe. Thanks for this report.
