As I blogged about on Tuesday, I flew up to Hamburg for the Aircraft Interiors Expo for a couple days. My intention was to take hundreds of pictures and make them available through a picture link on Live and Let’s Fly, but work got in the way (imagine that!). It was a very productive trip, but sadly the pictures below are all I managed to snap between meetings.
One highlight for me (not pictured below) was a mock-up of the 777 upstairs crew rest that seat manufacturer B/E had on display. I’ve been downstairs to the crew rest area on a Lufthansa A346 before, but was really impressed with the crew resting area available to 777 crews (and featured on UA’s internationally-configured 777s).
I was also impressed with the technology now available on IFE systems. Not only are the new systems lightweight and cheaper, they are easier to use, have a better interface, and more content. I will pass on doing a company-by-company comparison here, but I walked away very impressed. With the entertainment systems and economy class seats of tomorrow, I think I might actually enjoy a longhaul trip in economy. Honestly.
Enjoy the pictures below.
Thanks for the photos! It looked like a very interesting event to attend.. Do they always hold it in Hamburg, or is there an expo in US? Seems like something that would be enjoyable to attend.
I’m jealous!
