Pilot Breaks Flight Attendant’s Arm In Lavatory Brawl

A pilot lost a tooth in a nasty onboard brawl over the lavatory, but not before breaking the arm of a flight attendant.

The incident occurred on February 20, 2021 while in the air. The pilot and flight attendant fly for China’s Donghai Airlines.

During DZ6297, a flight from Nantong to Xi’an, the pilot exited the flight deck in order to us the lavatory. As he opened the cockpit door, a passenger was approaching the lavatory. The pilot told the passenger to wait in his seat until he was done.

However, when the pilot emerged from the lavatory, the passenger was waiting in front of the door. This enraged the pilot and he immediately blamed the first class flight attendant for failing to do his job.

Voices were raised, a skirmish ensued, and the pilot lost a tooth…but the flight attendant suffered a broken arm. Both were male.

Donghai Airlines is investigating the incident, but says it has suspended both men according to the South China Morning Post:

“The company attached high importance to the argument among the crew members during flight and conducted a strict internal verification. Those staff members involved have been suspended their job to ensure flight safety.”

Stories from the flight went viral on Chinese social media over the weekend, though no pictures or video have emerged.

CONCLUSION

This is a really nasty story. Although details are limited, it would appear the two men got into a “macho” match and both ending up physically hurt and now facing unemployment.

The lesson is simple: when it comes to matters of pride, turn the other cheek.

    That is interesting. At least on US airlines, when a pilot is leaving the flight deck to go out, food carts are placed in the corridor so no passengers can come anywhere close to the lavatory. The cart blocks the access and a FA is always there until the pilot gets back inside the flight deck. Don’t they follow similar rules in China?

    No, they don’t follow those rules: it’s not uncommon to see the cockpit door open. These pilots ( mostly ex military) are even more arrogant than their counterparts in the west (…ie, quite an achievement)…

    Serious question… if a pilot and a FA start brawlin’ on a US domestic flight, do the cops meet them at the gate, or is that just for passenger fights?
