After my Green Lake trip this year, I returned to Chicago O’Hare for my late evening flight home on United Airlines. Since I had a bit of extra time, I decided to set a trap for my pizza thief, just in case he was still lurking. If you’re not familiar with the story, start here.
A Cheesy Trap For A Deep Dish Pizza Thief At Chicago O’Hare
On the way to the airport, I stopped at Lou Manati’s in Park Ridge, IL (near the airport) and picked up a few frozen pizzas to take back to Los Angeles.
They were nicely packaged in a to-go box.
Once I cleared security at ORD, I returned to the same area where my pizza was stolen last year and laid the trap.
I set down the box of pizza pies, then walked away, sitting at a distance of about 100 feet. My eyes were on the prize at all times.
Alas, no takers. In fact, it was a quiet evening at Chicago O’Hare in the B Gate area of Terminal 1 and no one seemed to even notice it.
After 30 minutes I grabbed the pizza and headed through the tunnel to the C Gates and boarded my fight to Los Angeles.
But it’s all starting to make sense. This week we learned that my suspected pizza thief, the man who spent three months living in Chicago O’Hare, was cleared of criminal trespass charges. Aditya Singh, 37, spent three months living in ORD over what he called coronavirus fear. He flew from Los Angeles to Chicago and was supposed to board his connection to India, but decided to stick around…and moved in.
Singh may not be out of the woods yet, as he does face an escape charge related to his electronic monitoring device he wore while out on bail. I’d add a petty larceny charge to that as well, though I hope he enjoyed my pizza! 😉
CONCLUSION
Based upon my experiment, it seems your pizzas are safe in Chicago O’Hare again, but remain vigilant! My pizza thief may still be lurking! Or maybe he just prefers Giordano’s over Lou Manalti’s…

It’s BS this guy wasn’t charged. Should have been barred from ever entering the United States again. Probably got a free education at taxpayers expense as well.
And leaving an unattended package, even if watching isn’t the best idea.

What a strange/coincidental article Matt. I grew up in Park Ridge. Would walk over to the Marriott at Cumberland & Higgins on Saturday mornings. The courtesy van drivers all knew me and would let me hitch a ride out to ORD. I’d spend HOURS out there just watching aircraft movements and gate agents would take me on board the planes. (Aaah to be young in the ‘60’s) and then hitch a ride back to the Marriott and walk home. Mom would always question me if I behaved myself. (I think the various agents would call her to let her know they were keeping tabs on me but she never let on). Then you mentioned Green Lake, WI. We had our summer home 3 doors down from Pilgrim Camp. Thank you Matt for the memories! I’m pushing 70 now, have achieved lifetime status with AA. Was smart enough to think AAdvantage was going to be a thing and enrolled 2 months after it’s inception. Don’t fly as much as I’d like due to COVID but once it’s under control can’t wait to travel again. Love your column!
