Review: Plaza Premium Lounge Kuala Lumpur (KUL)

Although extremely crowded, I was impressed by the food and drink selection at the Plaza Premium Lounge in Kulala Lumpur (KUL) Terminal 1 Satellite.

This is a 24/7 Priority Pass lounge, so your co-issued American Express or Chase Priority Pass card will get you in with at least two guests (PP cards issued by Chase offer unlimited guests at no extra charge). It is located on the upper level of the satellite terminal of Terminal 1.

When I say crowded, I mean crowded. It took me time to find a seat and forget about any privacy…if you are there during the peak evening hours you’ll be in economy class style proximity to your fellow lounge patrons. The lounge slowly began to empty out as I left – these pictures were very selectively taken, so don’t be fooled into thinking I was exaggerating about the crowds.

So why not just turn around and walk out? Well, two reasons: food and drink. Perhaps it was more visual appearance over actual taste, since I did not eat (I ate dinner in the Malaysia Airlines lounge), but the food looked tasty. A chef was busy at work preparing food behind the buffet, which included a generous selection of food from around the world. Another chef was carefully checking the temperature of the buffet items, to make sure the food was warm enough.

I appreciated the coffee bar, with freshly-ground coffee made to order. I recommend a double shot on whatever you order since the coffee was not very strong, but the bartenders were all quite pleasant. There’s also a “bakery” in the bar with sweet treats like coffee opera cake or lemon madeleines.

Finally, the restrooms were so crowded I did not bother to take a picture. Showers are available upon request.

CONCLUSION

While very crowded, I appreciated the food and drink in this lounge. This is not a lounge to arrive early for, but is worth stopping at if you happen to have time before your flight or during a layover.

Correction – the CSR PP card only gives you two guests for free. Any more after that cost an extra $27 per person. It’s not unlimited anymore unfortunately.

Well Plaza Premium definitely should have a strong showing in KL International, its the home country of its founder after all, which also explains why Klia was the first airport to receive a PP First lounge.
