If you’re looking for a quirky and charming boutique hotel on South Beach, I’d recommend The Plymouth Hotel Miami, a Small Luxury Hotels of the World property.

Location

Just three blocks back from the beach and two from historic Collins Avenue, The Plymouth embodies everything a visitor might want in an Art Deco South Beach property. Parking is available nearby or temporarily on the street outside, and on a weekday morning it took us just under 35 minutes to get to the airport.

Property

Upon arrival, there’s an expectation that The Plymouth (South Beach) will be an updated Miami beach hotel from days past. On that promise the hotel delivers. Inside the lobby is ample seating, guests could be seen on laptops throughout the day, an old phone booth and letterbox directory. The reception was reminiscent of a coat check.

The hotel is home to Blue Ribbon Sushi, its lobby restaurant that was well attended throughout our stay, an indoor tiki bar, and another at the pool. Breakfast is held next door at the Seasons Cafe, also not available before 8 AM. I understand that boutique hotels, especially in leisure areas see later breakfast customers, but it did strike me as odd and many people were coming and going prior to 8 AM.

The pool in the center courtyard of the Plymouth was postcard-perfect with orange-striped umbrellas, cabanas at the edge, and plenty of loungers.

Benefits

As guests on a Hyatt reservation (they lost the partnership while we were at the property though I later argued that Hyatt doesn’t really need SLH anymore) the hotel offered us benefits during our stay. While Globalists usually receive breakfast, it was included for us as well as lowly Explorists with Hyatt, a Hilton Gold equivalent. Our rooms were preferred, one King overlooking the pool, the double queen was a bit larger but had a street view.

The $45/day resort fee was included in our rate, though parking was an additional fee. Self-parking is available as well as valet, and while the valet was nice, they don’t open until 8 AM. For our 7:30 departure, this had me jumping through hoops and running to the garage about two blocks away behind the hotel and waking someone up to get my keys and car so we could make our flight.

Room

For most hotel reviews, I just cover the room we stay in, even if we tour something else. However, on this occasion my parents were traveling with us, so I will include imagery of both our double queen as well as their king bedroom.

King bedroom at The Plymouth Hotel Miami featuring a plush tufted headboard, crisp white bedding, bedside lamp, and wardrobe, reflecting the hotel’s boutique charm and comfort.

The king layout was more traditional, while our double queen offered extra space in places but was a bit quirky. For example, the shower was perhaps six feet long and three feet wide, and our wardrobes in the double queen had a separate cut out area as the room was larger than the King.

Bathroom

The property uses Molton Brown toiletries, well received in our family. The large shower was a plus too. In the King room, however, the vanity was outside of the bathroom and toilet.

Value

For our stay, the nightly price including taxes varied from $245-280 depending on the room type. With the added breakfast benefit (had we been able to use it), this property would have been an outright steal. The hotel perfectly captured the South Beach feel and we loved the charm. For the money we would absolutely return. I’d love to compare the cash price redemption costs, however, Hilton has not released its award chart for these hotels and charges for properties dynamically, usually at a value of about 0.4¢/point. That would place this propety at around 60,000 points per night when it’s added to the Honors program.

We loved our stay at The Plymouth Miami South Beach and we will return but this time, we will book a later flight and park the car ourselves.

We definitely don’t like Groomers here in Florida. If you like to F kids, why not try SE Asia like many of the peds that visit this site do? Oh thats right, they go there for “business”, the food and the culture. Silly me.

Next time try the $8/day covered garage with free shuttle to your hotel in Miami Beach. Brunch at the Setai is an impressive smorgasbord all cooked to order. Happy hour at Sweet Liberty for drinks and food, the burger impressed my European friends.
