A Utah man has been arrested for using mice and hamsters on multiple occasions to scam free hotel rooms.
Police allege that Ryan Sentelle State, 37, had a go-to plan to secure free hotel rooms. He’d check in to a hotel room, release his hamster or mice, wait for them to defecate on the floor, then call the hotel front desk the next morning, complaining that he had found rodent feces in his room.
The result was always the same: a comped room. Sometimes, even additional compensation was offered.
State employed this trick in at least three hotel rooms, though police allege it happened at many more places. Under Utah State law, when rodent dropping are discovered in a hotel room, hotels must contact pest control.
State faces five misdemeanor charges, including:
- theft by deception – two counts
- criminal mischief – three counts
CONCLUSION
File this one under: seriously?
But the sad thing is there is really nothing a hotel can do to prevent against it. In fact, it’s actually pretty clever for someone who has nothing to lose. But it is also shameful and impacts far more than revenue for one night if a hotel room (or entire hotel) is forced to close in order to inspect for rodents.

Wonder how he got caught
Very sad that his intelligence lead him to Stupidty, dishonesty and Fired!! Should go to jail!!
You only get a rodent-free room if you pay an extra add-on charge!
