The Royal Jordanian Crown Lounge in Amman (AMM) has improved, with a number of elements that made for a very pleasant visit prior to my flight.
Royal Jordanian Crown Lounge Amman Review (AMM)
In short, I think this lounge is trying to rival the great Turkish Airlines lounges in Istanbul (review here). With a number of stations and areas, there is something for everyone here.
Access + Location + Hours
This 24/7 lounge is located on Level 4. After clearing security and passport control, walk through the duty free area and you will find the lounge entrance in the back. Your credentials will be checked at the entrance and you can then take the elevator upstairs.
Not only is this a longe for oneworld business class passengers and oneworld sapphire and emerald cardholders, it is also a Priority Pass lounge.
Seating
The lounge is like a big terrace that overlooks the concourse below. You will find a variety of seating options including couches, easy chairs, and tables with chairs throughout the lounge.
Food + Drink
Here’s where I noticed the greatest improvement from my prior visit: not only does the lounge offer a great selection of food similar to what you can expect onboard, but there is now a pizza station and a pasta station in which you can order a pasta dish of your choice.
The main food area has pre-plated cold and hot food like Arabic mezze or Kabesh.
You can expect food just like this onboard…and it is delicious.
On the other side, freshly-baked pizza is available.
A small booth offers pasta as well.
Barista-made coffee is available (even pour overs and cold brew) and you can also order strong Arabic coffee.
A full-service bar has a rather limited selection of liquor, but is open 24/7 (during Ramadan as well).
Fruit juices (not freshly squeezed), soft drinks, water, and tea are also available.
Smoking
With smoking very prevalent in Jordan, the lounge has a separatelty-ventalated smoking room – thankfully smoking is not permitted everywhere (as in years past).
Restrooms + Showers
Restrooms and showers are available – see a receptionist to request a shower room. I did not take pictures because they were busy.
Charging Stations
If you’ve forgotten your charging device (something I’ve done before…) you can charge your device at a number of charging stations located around the lounge.
CONCLUSION
This lounge is large and offers a nice selection of food and drink. I enjoy visiting this lounge and consider it greatly improved over my last prior visits thanks to barista-made coffee and the new special food stations.
My original Royal Jordanian Crown Lounge Amman review, published on September 12, 2018, appears below.
Royal Jordanian’s hub lounge in Queen Alia International Airport offers plenty of space to spread out and a great selection of Middle Eastern appetizers.
You’ll find the lounge on the upper level of the main departures hall at AMM. Entrance is reserved for Royal Jordanian and oneworld business class passengers, oneworld Emerald or Sapphire members, and Priority Pass members.
Looking up from the ground level, the lounge appears to be one large balcony stretching around the terminal and overlooking the Duty Free shops and gates below. I like the design very much.
Beverage stations are strategically positioned around the lounge, including a wine bar, self-serve coffee, and plenty of soft drinks and fruit juices.
The buffet includes great mezze items like tabuleh, labneh, hummus, and tasty mini beef schwarma rolls. Fresh salads, sandwiches, pastries, and breads. Other hot items include mozzerlla sticks, potato balls, and meat balls.
You might think this lounge must get very crowded. After all, it is not only the lounge for the airport’s number one carrier, it is also a Priority Pass lounge. But I’ve visited twice, once in the early evening and once in the middle of night and both times the lounge was not crowded at all.
Seating is varied throughout the lounge.
There’s even a few private TV rooms:
And a quiet room:
Restrooms and showers (not pictured) are available. Showers cost 11JOD to use.
Sadly, internet functions slowly. Bring along a converter if you want to charge your devices and don’t have UK-style plugs.
CONCLUSION
I liked this lounge better than the nearby Petra Lounge, both part of the Priority Pass network. If you arrive hungry you can leave full, but this better to enjoy some excellent appetizers in this lounge and enjoy a heartier meal on your flight.
Do you still have to pay to use the showers?
Yes. 11JOD
I was told passengers needed to pay extra service fee for shower facility. Is it true?
Agree with your assessment. Lovely lounge and each time I have been there it is kinda sad that there are not more people.
It has the best coffee in the world. So does Central Cafe in Feankfurt.
I have been to this lounge so many times mostly morning hours and sometimes around dinner time. The pictures here are clearly from the marketing department and not from the author of the piece. I have rarely seen any food items beyond starters (mezza mentioned here). The choice of food never changed through lifetime of lounge but staff attitude has certainly deteriorated.
It gets super crowded with literally no place to sit if you want to eat.
The bathrooms are outdated to a degree that toilet seats have cracks and holds in the plastic. I usually go to Petra lounge if I want a cleaner bathroom.
RJ needs to up its game for the lounge and learn from regional competitors (other than Egypt Air). This piece here is marketing rather than review. Instead let’s ask RJ to improve its lounge rather than for a marketing piece.
Ridiculous charge. I took all these pictures myself and have not been in contact with Royal Jordanian at all. I found the experience much better than you describe.
I always use the lounge and the food is really good. A week ago, my flight was very early in the morning and the smell of the bakery was really inviting that I could not resist the freshly baked croissants. The staff continuously clean the tables and always around. However, I suggest a bigger screen for flights information to be installed.
Priority Pass says entrance limited to 3hrs prior. Any truth to this?
I doubt they’d come and find you inside that large lounge.
It says entry allowed 3 hours before your departure time
Pasta and pizza in Jordan? Why???? With amazing local food who needs pizza and pasta that are probably subpar compared to what you would get in Italy.
I am not mad about the comfort food. Sometimes it just really hits when you are hungry and traveling.
“You can expect food just like this onboard…and it is delicious.”
Is the Kabesh as good as the Kabseh?
I’m in the lounge atm, it’s a nice place to sit and great that it’s priority pass. The food looks fine but leave the airport if you can and get much better Jordanian food. But nice seating and lots of it. It’s pretty hot up on the balcony but this is really a great little airport!
But I’ll mention that there are very few electrical outlets in the lounge… There are some in the floor in some of the seating areas but not many and not conveniently located
Do you get access to the lounge free of charge if you have a business class ticket?
Yes, on RJ or Qatar Airways.
Hello,
My waiting time between two flight almost 12 hrs. I bought an access to RJ lounge, How can I extend my access to the lounge.
Just stay inside – they won’t find you.
Do the pasta and pizza stations have specific hours? I will be in the lounge on two occasions, once at 10 PM and again at 6 AM.
I would expect you would be good at 10 pm but probably not 6 am.
Let us know after your visit.
if i use the priority pass, do i need to pay for the foods? or if i add on the lounge, do i need to pay extra for the foods?
Everything included.
