Royal Jordanian Again Pokes Fun at Trump

Matthew Klint Posted onFebruary 5, 2017 5 Comments

King Abdullah of Jordan and the lovely Queen Raina were in Washington, DC last week to meet with President Donald Trump. Meanwhile, Royal Jordanian, the state-owned flag carrier of the Hashemite Kingdom rolled out a new ad implicitly attacking the U.S. President.

The Pre-Election Royal Jordanian Ad

Prior to the U.S. election, Royal Jordanian ran the following controversial ad–

Royal Jordanian Ad 01

Advising travelers “just in case he wins…travel to the US while you’re still allowed to” the ad turned heads, but most laughed it off.

But last week, the President issued an Executive Order banning travel from seven predominantly Muslim countries. Although a federal judge in Seattle has since nullified the Executive Order, the Royal Jordanian ad suddenly seemed prophetic.

The New Royal Jordanian Ad

Now RJ is out with a new ad–

Royal Jordanian Ad 02

Crossing out the “a” in “ban” with an “o” and writing “voyage” next to it, RJ has cleverly played upon Friday’s news. Below it, a statement reads, “Fly to the US with RJ now that you’re allowed to.”

Airlines & Politics

Most estimates peg the number of refugees in Jordan at 1.4 million. Thus, it is no wonder that the state-run airline has a stake in the issue of whether the U.S. will take any more refugees in.

Nevertheless, I do have to wonder if this ad is wise with someone with a temperament like Trump. His critics condemn it, his supporters love it, but let’s face it — Trump takes things personally…just read his Twitter feed. His administration is appealing the judge’s ruling. Wouldn’t it be something if that list of eight countries grew to nine to include Jordan?

One thing is for sure…we are all talking about it!

I don’t mean to be well….mean but if refugees are so awesome why doesn’t Jordan want all these refugees to remain in Jordan? I can appreciate the opportunity for marketing however. Just like I enjoy the Spirit advertising I can enjoy what Jordanian is doing as long as they don’t take themselves too seriously. At least Jordan will allow Israeli passports and visa stamps to enter Jordan.

I enjoyed my travels thru Jordan a few decades ago and find King Abdullah a reasonable ally…. however Jordon has a problem and its very clear to tourists and travelers

I’d suggest JR button up the satire. I would not fly them just because of some witty copywriter
