Ryanair Flight Diverts To Germany Due To Bomb Threat…No Passengers Arrested

Another Ryanair flight diverted to an alternate country due to an alleged bomb threat onboard, this time diverting to Berlin, Germany. Only this time, no political dissidents were arrested before the plane continued on to its final destination.

Ryanair Berlin Diversion – No Political Enemies Arrested

FR1901 left Dublin (DUB) Sunday evening bound for Krakow (KRK). As the flight approached the Polish border, German air traffic controllers informed the flight deck of a “potential security threat on board.” Germany’s Bild Zeitung reported it was a bomb threat.

The captain opted to divert to the nearest airport, Berlin, even though the destination was only 329 miles further. All passengers disembarked so that the passenger cabin could be screened. Luggage holds were screened.

No bombs were found. No German dissidents were found either…as all passengers continued to Krakow on a different aircraft.

A Ryanair spokesperson noted:

“Once cleared by German authorities, passengers travelled onwards to Krakow on a spare Ryanair aircraft after a delay on the ground of approximately seven hours.”

CONCLUSION

This was a textbook case of how a diversion is supposed to be. Threats must be taken seriously because the cost for not doing so could be catastrophic. But targeting flights for diversions based upon the passengers aboard is a whole different cup of tea.
