Booked! Singapore Airlines A380 Suites + Nepal And Bhutan

For years, the “new” Singapore Airlines a380 Suites has been at the very top of my airline bucket list. Before Singapore Airlines pulled the A380 off of its New York JFK route, I took advantage of an opportunity to fly in Suites Class all the way to Singapore and also enjoy a wonderful time in Asia, including a visit to Nepal and Bhutan for the first time.

Singapore Airlines A380 Suites Trip – Finally A Reality!

The trip recently occurred and is complete, but in the days ahead I am going to “live blog” my first impressions since readers seem to like the condensed version of flight reviews. It is virtually impossible to score “saver” seats on SQ25 from New York (JFK) to Singapore (SIN) via Frankfurt (FRA), but once in a while “advantage” awards are available at a cost of 228,000 miles plus negligible taxes. Even this is a steal.

This trip will also include flights on KLM, Malaysia Airlines, Japan Airlines, United Airlines, Bangkok Airways, Nepal Airlines, Drukair, Bhutan Airlines, and Air India.

Any guesses about the routes I flew?

I traveled with my travel buddy I journeyed to the Middle East with last year and we had a fabulous time.

I am happy to report that traveling the world, even in Asia (though not quite), seems like old times. There are still scars from the pandemic and masks were annoyingly still required on a couple of flights, but overall borders are open and travel is back!

Although I traveled to Tokyo and Bangkok during the pandemic, this marked my first true return to Asia and it was great to be back. In fact, as great as Singapore Airlines was (that’s the only hint I will give right now), the time on the ground was even more amazing.

So stay tuned…I’ll be offering my “first impressions” of the Singapore Airlines flight tomorrow.

Would love to hear about your Bhutan trip. Lived there for a couple of years (way before Covid) and I thought it was one of the most serene experiences

I think SQ stopped being an A380 and got changed to a 777. The A380 got moved to Australia. Lucky you made it before the change.

Correct, it went off the route last month. Glad I got in before the change!

It’s flying down here to MEL again now for NS, where the Advantage award in Suites is a ridiculous 155k for the short 7 hr flight to or from SIN. So 228k for JFK-FRA-SIN is indeed a steal! Glad you could make it work Matthew and looking forward to the reviews!

Look forward to your thoughts. I’ve flown SQ Suites a couple times and Will again in October SYD SIN LHR. Transferring enough points to SQ got me Star Alliance Gold status last year and was extended this year 🙂

Thanks. I’ll put out “first impressions” this week and next and then once I finish the father-son trip report and one other short report I will begin the formal trip report with more comprehensive flight and hotel reviews.

Looking forward to the reporting. Can you clarify when the trip occurred – sometime in 2022?

I can’t wait to read this. Not only does the trip itself sound fascinating but I’m dying to hear how you book the A380 suites. I tried JFK-SIN to end of schedule for a couple of years with no luck.
