I’m live-blogging my SAS EuroBonus SkyTeam Million Mile challenge this week. Click here for background and route information.
The Butterfly Garden in Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) was such a treat for my 8-year-old son and one of the many things that makes Changi a leading airport of the world.
A Visit To The Butterfly Garden – Singapore Changi Airport
After arriving from Ho Chi Minh City on Vietnam Airlines, we had a few hours before it was time to board our next flight. I know that left time to visit Jewel or even go into Singapore, but I thought rather than going through passport control and security, we’d stay airside and visit the Butterfly Garden before hitting the lounge.
Put simply, the 24/7 Butterfly Garden is a small tropical habitat with over 1,000 butterflies from 40 different species. It is located in Terminal 3, free of charge to visit, and open 24/7 (though optimal viewing time is during daylight hours).
This beautiful element of SIN is like stepping into a tropical rainforest and the flowers, greenery, and waterfall are all nicely done.
Augustine loved it…he could not get enough of it and was over the moon when a butterfly landed on his hand.
We saw in the nick of time, because not long after our visit a torrential afternoon rain began and it rained for the next hours.
Thankfully there was a playground as well…
If you’re transiting Singapore, you don’t even have to leave the secure side of the airport to enjoy yourself…there is plenty to do without leaving, including the Butterfly Garden.
That looks incredible and so great that you got to enjoy it together. If you ever get to Key West with him the Butterfly Conservatory there is worth a visit.
Being my negative self I have to add the pop ups while trying to comment are really annoying. But it get the bills need to be paid.
Thank you for the feedback on the pop-ups. We are trying them…and welcome any/all feedback.
The ads are never ideal, but yes, they do support this blog so I don’t have to shill credit cards all day.
Appreciate you reading.
Hello Matthew. We all know that any blog owner/author appreciates clicks and readers and we all know that you are loath to edit or sensor comments. But after all of Edwards’ nasty, disgusting, vile, repulsive, gratuitously insulting comments, it’s very disappointing to see you extend to him or her positive reinforcement. Personally, I (and I suspect many other polite readers) ignore the vast majority of what he or she writes. Your compliment to him or her has significantly decreased your standing, credence and trustworthiness. You would be much better served by ignoring his or her comments. Respectfully,
I hear you.
Thank you. And thanks for not explaining it as (attempted) positive reinforcement in the hopes of promoting future appropriate comments, that would’ve been even more patronizing and disingenuous.
Great. Amazing place for kids to visit.
“rather than going through passport control and security”
Isn’t security at the gate everywhere except T4, or has that changed?
You’re right that security is at the gate, but isn’t there a less formal security check going in?
You may be selected for a quick luggage scan but now immigration clearance is automated in and out so going landside is really painless. That said as you say, plenty to keep you entertained airside. If you ride the train between 2&3 you can get a good view of the vortex in The Jewel
Thanks for that. I was wondering how to see the inside of the Jewel from the train – I’ll know for my next visit!
Depends on where you’re coming from. Indonesia flights require it. Japan and Malaysia don’t. Not sure about VN.
Our kids love the butterfly garden. It is such a wonderful exhibit!
Hope the butterflies get breaks/lunch in during their 0800-1700 shift… Curious if there’s ever overtime offered … !
