Delta Flight Attendants Catch Clueless Passenger Smoking

I guess the “no smoking” signs and Deltalina are not enough, because a clueless passenger was caught smoking in the lavatory on a recent Delta Air Lines flight, prompting the captain to return to the gate.

Man Appears Dazed After He Is Caught Smoking In Lavatory On Delta Air Lines Flight

We don’t know the details in terms of date or flight number, but passenger video shows a flight attendant remarking, “He’s smoking in the bathroom!” outside the lavatory in a dimly-lit widebody economy class cabin. The man was wearing an Atlanta Braves cap, so perhaps a flight departing Atlanta?

Another flight attendant knocks on the door and scolds the passenger for smoking, who steps out with a sullen “caught with his hand in the cookie jar” face. He says nothing as he is reminded that smoking is prohibited and told the flight will be returning to the gate to offload him.

Jay Robert, who shared the video above on his popular Instagram channel, remarked, “It’s better he got off because he was gonna be really disappointed when those munchies hit and he saw what snacks were on offer.”

I tend to disagree…I’d imagine that Biscoff cookies and almonds taste just fine when you are high…not that I will ever find out myself. In this case, it isn’t clear that he was smoking marijuana versus tobacco, but certainly, the pungent smell of pot would have quickly alerted those outside the lavatory to what was going on inside…

I suppose a stupid person might assume that with ashtrays located on every lavatory dor, the implication is that the bathroom is a designated smoking area, just as it is in many parts of the world still today.

But folks…you don’t smoke on a plane in 2024. That went out of style nearly 30 years ago…

Another passenger was fined over $10,000 for puffing on an e-cigarette in 2021…I expect a similar fine for this man.

@ Matthew — Kinda hard to claim that you do not realize that smoking is not allowed.

Smoking a doobie during taxi for takeoff. All part of the Delta premium experience for the discerning traveler.

Why was he in the lav on an active runway? What a dumba$$, next time bring an edible.

I have a relative who tried to sneak a cigarette in the lav about 3 decades ago. She tried to blow the smoke into the toilet water to mask it, finished the cig, and then went to her seat. She thought she got away with it until they landed and the FA escorted her to the police. It appeared to be a remarkably cool, professional way to handle the situation. I don’t know the legal outcome (whether she was fined or not).

I was on an Allegiant flight where someone smoked in the Lav (2017) I just remember not really smelling it (I was in the very back of the plane, he was in the front Lav) but a bunch of unusal lights going off the flight attendants reacting clearly knowing exactly what was going on. They approached the man after he exited the lav with a bunch of paperwork and when we landed in Mesa they wouldn’t let anyone off using the rear door (which is normally allowed in Mesa even after the crew brought steps up to it) and I saw the County Sherrif at our plane talking to the man as I got off (last), the lack of the rear door was clearly to try and make sure the man didn’t get away.

One wonders…is it the Tar and Nicotine that make smokers stupid or genetics?

You have to be stupid to take up smoking in the first place so the stupid came before the tar and nicotine. I’m saying this as a former decades long 2 pack-a-day smoker.

Can anyone really claim ignorance about smoking on a plane these days?
