Sore Losers: NFL Team Trashes United 767-400

Matthew Klint Posted onJanuary 10, 2017January 10, 2017 11 Comments

The New York Giants lost their Wild Card Round playoff game to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday…and took out their anger on a United Airlines 767-400.

Airlines are happy to lease out their planes and crews if the price is right. All major carriers in the USA engage in this and the New York Giants chartered a United 767-4oo to take them back to New York following a decisive defeat.

Playoff losses are always disheartening, but the Giants allegedly took out their frustration on the business class cabin. The plane was assigned to continue to London on a scheduled service at 8:30a but that flight ultimately was delayed for nearly four hours. Passengers were told the reason for the delay was “the plane needed extra help repairing and cleaning the interior”.

Inquisitive passengers were told by a Newark gate agent that the “Giants destroyed the business class cabin” and that workers carried “countless” filthy seat cushions off the plane.

NFL Charters

One passenger tweeted that when he finally boarded, the plane still reeked of alcohol. He also claimed to find chewing tobacco, popcorn, and other crumbs in his seat.

The NY Giants have denied that the NFL team destroyed the plane. United has deflected. Spokeswoman Maddie King said–

Flight 934 to London had a mechanical issue and we had to replace it with the aircraft used for the Giants charter the night before. This aircraft was not scheduled to re-depart from Newark for a few more days, and it took our team some time to prepare the aircraft for its next commercial flight.

To which I read, “Of course they trashed it but usually we have a few days to repair it!” That’s my interpretation only, of course…

The circumstantial evidence is strong. The Giants Odell Beckham Jr. was so angry he punched a hole in the wall after the loss. I can imagine a few…too many…drinks would have been a welcome way to forget the evening.

Pitiful…if those men do that to someone else’s property, I can’t imagine what they do to their families when they get in the privacy of their own home. So sad this is how some “men” act.

Hm. FT seems more equivocal. Would UA and Giants outright lie to protect their reputation? Are there other explanations? Probably half of the airline stuff reported is false so I’m not so convinced they’re to blame…

Note that UA did not deny they trashed the plane…only that the plane was not scheduled to be used for that morning London flight but had to be subbed in at the last minute. If there wasn’t a mechanical problem with the new jet, what else would cause the delay?

Boys being boys. I hope United bills the Giants for the damage.
To act like babies is UNACCEPTABLE and hopefully other airlines know of thos and do not charter to the Giants.
    What a bunch of losers

Trashing aircraft is the norm for sports charters. Rich young guys with no mommy to clean up after their filthy selves
