We’ve just learned that instances of unruly in-flight behavior are down 80% from their 2021 peak, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. A 2021 incident that recently surfaced concerning a lady in red on Southwest Airlines in Florida provides a good reminder of why everyone just seems calmer these days onboard commercial flights.
Hoping To Avoid Arrest After Southwest Airlines Flight, She Said, “Officer, I Will Do ANYTHING For You”
A Flordia woman was arrested for refusing to leave an aircraft jetbridge at Orlando International Airport (MCO) after she got in trouble on her Southwest Airlines flight, purportedly for refusing to wear a mask. This incident occurred late on February 13, 2021, right at the height of the pandemic and during a period in which the federal government implemented a mask mandate onboard all commercial flights for every passenger aged three and above.
Police bodycam footage from the Orlando Police Department captured much of the encounter, but not what occurred onboard or in the post-flight moments leading up to her arrest. From what I can gather, she did not wear a mask onboard and was told by Southwest that she was banned from future travel. She apparently had a change of heart and tried to argue her way out of the ban…on the 737 jetbridge.
But these sorts of arguments tend to go in circles and when she refused to leave, the police were summoned. She was asked again to leave, but again refused, saying she was going to call her lawyer instead. It was at that point that handcuffs were placed on her and she was arrested.
The woman seemed genuinely startled that she was actually arrested…once she was, her tune quickly changed. Over the next few minutes (in video that is somewhat painful to watch), she:
- Demands to speak to her lawyer
- Accuses the police officers of hurting her
- Begs for forgiveness and to be let go
- Apologizes for her conduct
- Complains that she is all alone on Valentine’s Day
- Looks at the male officer and says, quite suggestively, “Officer, I will do anything for you….I will do anything. Please look at me, please!”
She was led downstairs onto the tarmac, where her ID was examined. The officer refused her advances and she was arrested. It’s not clear who she was, what happened to her, or why this 2021 video just surfaced now, but it reminds me of the “good old days.”
In all seriousness, it seems clear to me that the mask mandate onboard and the lack of alcohol were two very direct contributing causes to the massive spike in unruly behavior in the pandemic era. I’m not justifying anyone acting up because they did not want to wear a mask…but I’m quite glad to see that most folks have calmed down.
As for the lady in red, I hope she didn’t have to spend Valentine’s Day alone…
She was wrong, but how do you watch the first part of the video and side with the cops? Wtf is wrong with people? There was no need to yank her arms around like that and those cops should have been fired. You’re welcome for me clicking the click bait.
I thought that was unecesary too, especially yanking her arm by the big guy as he brought her up the jetbridge.
Maybe a bit harsh, but she wants complying with the officer’s commands. She had 100s of opportunities to prevent any interaction with police. But once they are involved for a violation like trespassing & a person is arrested, they no longer have the opportunity & freedom to decide what they want to do. They will get that back once they get out of jail. She could have prevented arm wrenching easily. It’s called listening to the commands from the officer arresting her. People need to start becoming accountable for their own behaviors. She’s lucky she didn’t get maced, tasered, or charged with resisting arrest. Its happened to other people in similar situations.
I love how she thinks she doesnt need to walk with the officer who has her in cuffs because “she is going to call her lawyer”. I know a ton of people in this world, but maybe only 1 or 2 that can say “I’m going to call my lawyer” & already have a name & number to call. If my child ever acted like this woman did, I would feel like I had failed in my duties as a parent.
I disagree that masks and lack of alcohol were causes of unruliness. The direct cause is the degradation of society and morals. You see this everywhere now, not just on airplanes like increasing road rage, crime, poor behavior in stores, restaurants…the list goes on and on. it wasn’t like this 20 years ago. People can argue all they want about mask being not helpful or whatever. Put putting on a mask is no different than putting on a seatbelt.
Yeah, you’d think the lack of helpful would lead to less incidences, seeing as how Matthew himself has posted lots of stories about drunk people causing disturbances both at airports and on airplanes.
Agree with you 100%. And then you get the folks who think law enforcement was too aggressive with this tramp. She didn’t give a damn about following the rules and not delaying and inconveniencing everyone else. People like her are perfect candidates for rough treatment. It’s always the fools who side with troublemakers as they watch them get their asses handed to them.
You speak as though you have no women in your life and probably for a good reason. If you did have one and she was man-handled, you’d be singing a different tune. No one here suggest she was in the right only that, her treatment was uncalled for.
Her treatment was NOT “uncalled for.” She was being totally uncooperative and was resisting all reasonable efforts to get her from the plane, all the way through the terminal and down to the police vehicle through an airport rear exit. She had been given plenty of chances to cooperate and peacefully leave the plane on her own, After she refused to comply with federal regulations while on the plane. The officer was injured and was visibly bleeding from his arm because of her physically resisting his efforts to guide her to the vehicle. And by the way, arrestees are not entitled to phone their lawyer until they have been transported to the police station and have completely gone through the booking process. This woman was behaving like a complete ass and was treated accordingly.
I agree
If unruly behavior reports are down, it’s because flight attendants are more involved in their own drama to care about what’s happening in the cabin. Too much extra work.
As for the harlot in red, I’m shall steal from Jan. ” why is it always these people “.
Ridiculous … Half her problem is she won’t STFU and desist in her drama-queen antics. Not complying with the officers only digs her whole deeper. She wasn’t alone on Valentine’s Day, she had plenty of company in jail ! I think not having access to alcohol prevents more unruly behavior versus being able to consume it and add fuel to the fire. Many people’s behavior changes after imbibing too much or cannot handle it.
I didn’t catch if they said alcohol was a factor in this lady’s issue. She definitely whined & wouldn’t shut up like I’ve seen people do when they are wasted.
No alcohol here unless she smuggled it onboard.
the… LACK of alcohol???
Aren’t most of pax unruly behaviour due to intoxication onboard?
I think when alcohol is not served in portion-controlled sizes onboard, people smuggle their own onboard or drink more in the terminal before boarding.
Sad everyone was force to wear masks and Vax.. Even tho the masks and the 6 foot nonsense were never proven to help..In hindsight the vax shot too as more and more people get the boosters and still get another mutation of the bug!!!
Masks weren’t mandated for people everywhere, at all times….but having a mandate in place for people on flights, which absolutely makes sense. I don’t care what we know now, it was operating in a world of unknowns at the time. Since airplanes are easily the largest factor that helped spread the coronavirus to every single country in the world within 6 weeks – safeguards needed to be put in place to try to mitigate the risk. For those that whine about having to wear a mask, good Lord, how entitled do you have to be? If you don’t like wearing 1 that bad, don’t book a flight until conditions change. It’s so simple.
7 million people were killed by Covid-19. Magnitudes more were hospitalized because of a Covid-19 infection. If you look at Covid-19 I’m historical context of other pandemics, like the Spanish flu of 1918 that killled an estimated 33% of the world population, you can see why it is important to try to slow &/or prevent the propagation of any deadly flu.
“Nonsense?” If u sneeze when you’ve got covid but u wear a mask, the mask definitely helps. And vaccines aren’t helpful? Are u into falconry, bear hunting and RFK Jr too?
I always love the Shaggy defense: “it wasn’t me!”
Let’s face it, being banned from flying Southwest isn’t actually a punishment to most of us.
Lol
The DOD claimed air recirculation was significantly better in the sky than on the ground, negating worries of transmitting a virus. Covid was a terrible time for freedom.
That is only after the air has been recirculated. You are still exposed to the people around you.
Okay, paint my house then.
Nothing to see here. Just an average, reasonable self proclaimed “hot girl”. Great example of why it’s better to stay single in Western countries. Wow.
Don’t agree with the wrenching of the arm. Or the arrest. She’s arguing but hardly beyond control. Or a danger to anyone.
If you don’t agree with being jerked around, don’t put yourself in a position to be jerked around and don’t delay and inconvenience others. Jerks need to be jerked.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. I hope she was charged with assault on a cop.
The so-called “genetic visa” is usually a reference to getting into a country and not a reference to a get out of jail card. M
Shouldn’t an offer of sexual/romantic services constitute a bribe in much the same way of an offer of money can be?
“I will do anything for you-except wear a mask in a closed space in the middle of a global pandemic so I can get to my destination without hacking up a lung on the other side or causing the death of a stranger. That’s where I draw the line. But literally, ANYTHING else….”
Masks were stupid…
+1
the woman deserves a presidential medal of freedom!
As a cop for 28 years, I can say that airport police are there for a reason, kinda like SRO’s. Lazy and can’t make good decisions on the street. Chief says… park the POS at the airport or your kid’s school. Get him off the street and problem solved. The cop lowering his hands down her arm to spin her around is a LEO trick to cause injury to the wrists, but it looks like the “stop resisting” goofball injured himself, instead. Amateur hour and never saw that one taught at the Police Academy. Absolutely unnecessary and they could have used both cops to walk her, but they didn’t. In fact, she was walking when he was using his arm to put pressure (pain) on her shoulder joint. The other abusive trick is how he “led” her to hit the door/door frame. So, why the delay in releasing the video? Court or a civil suit. Again, the Orlando Police Officer is parked at the airport for a reason. As a long time police officer, I will tell you that you don’t have to handle people that way. As for the people that commented that she should have been pepper sprayed of Tasered. First, it would be pretty stupid to do that to someone in a building, jet bridge, or plane, because everyone will soon have breathing issues and the area has to be decontaminated. EMS usually has to decon your arrestee at the location after pepper spray is deployed, per policy. USC1983 Civil Rights violation on Tasering someone that is in handcuffs. Federal Courts will nail the cop on that stupid act.
Started at 4th Circuit. Law of the land now:
“The court reached a conclusion that “taser use is unreasonable force in response to resistance that does not raise the risk of immediate danger. In doing so the court wrote: Our precedent leads to the conclusion that a police officer may only use serious injurious force, like a taser, when an objectively reasonable officer would conclude that the circumstances present a risk of immediate danger that could be mitigated by the use of force. At bottom, ‘physical resistance’ is not [the same thing as the] ‘risk of immediate danger.’”
