Spirit Airlines is launching more new routes from Los Angeles International Airport, including its first ever international routes.
New Domestic + International Spirit Airlines Routes From Los Angeles
Earlier this month I wrote about Spirit’s unique new nonstop service between Los Angeles and New York LaGuardia. That flight will only operate on Saturdays due to the perimeter rule at LGA. But that is not the only new route that Spirit will add at LAX.

The carrier will add several new routes including two flights to Mexico, which mark Spirit’s first international departures from LAX:
- Los Cabos (SJD) – Daily – starts May 5th
- Louisville (SDF) – Daily – starts May 27th
- St. Louis (STL) – Daily – starts May 27th
- Columbus (CMH) – Daily – starts June 9th
- LaGuardia (LGA) – Saturday only – starts June 12th
- Milwaukee (MKE) – Daily – starts June 24th
- Puerto Vallarta (PVR) – Daily – starts July 1st
Speaking of the new international routes, Spirit’s Vice President of Network Planning John Kirby said:
“Our new nonstop routes to Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta mark our first ever international service out of LAX and are great complements to our beyond continental 48 route map which now serves 30 destinations in Latin American and the Caribbean. In addition, our convenient new nonstop domestic flights, along with our low competitive fares, create even more great getaway options for our Guests in the LA Basin.”
Justin Erbacci, Chief Executive Officer, Los Angeles World Airports, added:
“With travel beginning to rebound, we are excited that Spirit Airlines is adding international service to Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta, as well as expanding domestic service from Los Angeles International Airport. LAX is the West Coast gateway to the world and these new nonstop destinations will provide new options for travelers who are ready to fly again.”

CONCLUSION
Spirit’s build-up at LAX will offer more direct links to cities across the United States and now two destinations in Mexico. Be sure to check competitor pricing, as network carriers often match without the onerous carry-on item restrictions that Spirit imposes.
Here we go again. They are growing too fast. It’s clear that Delta, AA, WN and UA are going after them hard as a result. Just a glance at WN and their Myrtle Beach buildup is an indication. I hope they are flush with cash because it’s about to get ugly real fast.
I always thought United, Delta, or American should start LaGuardia / LAX and/or SFO service on Saturdays for years but Spirit is the one to do it.

It seems to me that Spirit is hitting some LAX markets before B6 does. Though different in their service approach, they are sort of similar compared to the Big 4. LAX is about to get real interesting.
