Introduction: Star Alliance Business Class Adventure in Europe and Asia

Matthew Klint Posted onMarch 21, 2017November 14, 2023 3 Comments

I promised I would rotate between old and new trip reports as I clear the backlog of previously written reports that were never published on UPGRD.

Even so, I am selectively omitting certain portions of this report because some segments, like my LAX to ORD flight on United, just seem unnecessary at this point.

Here’s what I will include:

  • LOT 787 Business Class (ORD-WAW)
  • EVA 777-300 Business Class (AMS-BKK-TPE)
  • Austrian 767-300 Business Class (PEK-VIE)
  • Brussels A330-300 Business Class (BRU-JFK)
  • Asiana A320 Business Class (REP-ICN)
  • Asiana A330 Business Class (ICN-TPE)
  • Air China A330 Business Class (TPE-PEK)
  • Grand Hyatt Taipei
  • Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur
  • Park Hyatt Siem Reap

This trip took place in 2013.

Why Another Old Report?

I’ve answered this question before, but will do so again every time I publish an old trip report. What I find in my travels and viewing various trip reports on other blogs and on Flyertalk is that most products do not change much. When and where they have, I will make note of it. But, for example, the LOT 787-8 flight from Chicago to Warsaw I will publish tomorrow is virtually unchanged in terms of service, seat, amenities, and food from when I took it. Thus, I still consider it to be a helpful review.

This was booked as a North Asia award for 90K miles r/t (those were the days..). Even though the stopover in Europe should have knocked the price up to 100K I have two words: US Airways.

I think the LO might have seen a small change in service, ditching the carts.
The WAW lounge definitely improved since 2017.
