Review: Starlux Airlines Galactic Lounge Taipei (TPE – Terminal 2)

The flagship Starlux Galactic Lounge in Terminal 2 of Taipei’s Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) is meant to evoke a futuristic space port. With an a la carte menu, small buffet, restrooms, showers, and great service, this lounge represents a big upgrade over the other Starlux Lounge in Terminal 1.

Admittedly, the lounge reminds me a bit of Space Mountain at Disneyland…but that’s not a bad thing. The lounge staff are even wearing the sort of outfits that bring memories of watching The Jetsons when I was a kid.

Location + Hours + Access

The Starlux Lounge is located airside on level three of Terminal 2 (same as departures level). After clearing security, you’ll find the Starlux Lounge next to Gate D7. It is open daily from 5:00 am to 11:30 pm.

Access is reserved for Starlux Business Class passengers (no guests) as well as elite members in the Starlux “COSMILE” frequent flyer:

  • Explorer members – one guest
  • Insighter members- two guests

Starlux First Class passengers are allowed one guest if traveling on the same flight.

Lockers

As you enter the lounge, you’ll proceed past an area with lockers (a lot of them for a small lounge).

Seating

Walk past that and you’ll see the buffet to the right and the dining room straight ahead (with the bathrooms further back).

That’s the extent of the upstairs seating, but if you head downstairs (it was empty) you’ll see more seating in several smaller rooms.

Food + Drink

In addition to a small buffet, there was an a la carte menu (via QR code) that included:

  • congee
  • ramen
  • Waygyu burger
  • tofu burger
  • chicken soup
  • Chiayi-style chicken rice
  • steam porked intense soup

The a la carte menu also included a coffee menu and alcoholic beverages.

The buffet included:

  • the largest salad bar I’ve ever seen in an airport lounge
  • buns with sesame and peanut custard
  • steamed scallion roll
  • “snow fungus” with gogi berries (classic Chinese sweet soup)
  • Tuscan-style braised beef meatballs
  • amber soy milk marinated crispy chicken
  • Italian-style mixed vegetables
  • Thai-style stir fried mix vegetables
  • Hot dogs (7-11 style…)
  • smoked chicken and egg club sandwiches

Beverages included a pedestrian selection of wine and spirits, plus a beer tap, coffee machine, and canned juices, soft drinks, and water (including Evian and S.Pellegrino).

Restroom + Shower

Unlike the T1 Starlux lounge, this lounge has restrooms (upstairs):

a bathroom with yellow cabinets and mirrors

a row of urinals in a bathroom

a toilet in a bathroom

and showers (downstairs):

a bathroom with yellow walls and a sink

a shower with a hand shower

a basket with towels and a towel in a drawer

a yellow desk with a drawer open

If you need to shower, request a key card from the front desk staff.

Service

The front desk staff was very gracious in this lounge. I was offered a tour upon arrival and I was addressed by surname when leaving, which I thought was a kind touch.

CONCLUSION

I quite liked this lounge and appreciated how empty it was in the middle of the day, ahead of my flight to Bangkok. I’d imagine it gets a lot more crowded at night ahead of all the U.S. departures, but there’s plenty of room downstairs if the upstairs is crowded.

Starlux also offers a cozy but comfortable lounge in Terminal 1 of Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), with an a la carte menu and buffet.

I kind of love this distinct decor and theming. Definitely unique and brings some fun to travel.
