Earlier I offered a review of my SAS flight from Copenhagen to the Faroe Islands, merely glossing over the beautiful views out the window. Now, I want to focus on the majestic views out the window and why the views on this flight made it the most beautiful flight of my life.
The Most Beautiful Flight Of My Life On SAS To The Faroe Islands
Pictures often do not do justice to the majesty of nature. Flying to the Faroe Islands was a whole new experience for me. I knew the islands would be beautiful, but I had no idea how beautiful…I was in for the surprise of my life. That surprise began on my SAS flight from Copenhagen (CPH) to the Faroe Islands (FAE).
There is a constant cloud over many parts of the Faroe Islands and as we approached Vágar Airport the only view out the window was of clouds.
But suddenly there was not only an opening in the clouds, but beautiful sunlight streaming through. Oh to see the beauty of creation. Oh to see the rolling green hills kissed by sunlight. It was breathtaking. Had you been on the lightly-filled plane, you would have seen everyone against the starboard side, looking out the windows and taking in the beauty.
What is the most beautiful flight you have ever taken in terms of views from the window?
Traveling over Samaná peninsula during whale migration season.
Beautiful pictures! Thanks for sharing. Hard to pick a favorite. It’s why I’ve never tired from what I consider to be the best office view in the World.
Islands make for great flying indeed. The UA island hopper is hard to beat. I once flew LBJ-ENE-KOE in Indonesia, and it was pretty great.
Wow. More video content please. Love the photos, scenery and landing video. Take off video next? Domestic flew into OAK once and found it to be some lush extremely green paradise before making it over the mountains and city. No idea what we were over at that point, but it was gorgeous. Also I liked landing at DCA when it looks like you’re landing on the water and then all of a sudden you’re on a runway. Plus HNL, those would be my top three.
Thanks for posting the takeoff video on YouTube
There are so many great memories. But DCA to Logan on a crystal clear winter evening is a favorite. The coast beautifully outlined by lights the entire flight. It’s fascinating and leads to ruminations that this coast is one big city and how many humans populate it. And how I would love to navigate by all those lights!
Terminal E renderings are so nice for BOS; https://www.massport.com/logan-forward/initiatives/terminal-e-modernization
Ketchikan to Seattle on a clear day as the last leg of Alaska’s “Milk Run” flight
Beautiful. Only thing I can compare that with is landing and taking off in Paro.
Wow, only eight pilots can fly there? Crazy! I wonder what the contingency plan is to get more trained.
August of 2020, we flew from DFW to ANC. The flight path took us over the US and Canadian Rockies, then over the glaciers of the Alaska Panhandle, and finally over the Turnagain Arm on final approach to ANC. Miraculously, it was a mostly cloudless day almost the entire way. I don’t think anything will ever compare to that. But your photos definitely are beautiful.
We’re tentatively planning a trip to the Tierra del Fuego this November, and I’m really looking forward to the window seat views landing in USH and taking off from PUC.
A daytime flight BKK-FRA over impossibly remote settlements in the Hindu Kush, and a daytime flight ZRH-JNB watching the emerald ribbon of Mediterranean coast give way to the endless varied vastness of the Sahara.
Cairo, definitely Cairo
Wow, what a stunning approach!
My most scenic flight to date was IAH-SEA, flying over the snowy peaks of the majestic Rockies & enjoying a continuous sunset flying west. The flight back, in which I enjoyed views of Mt, Rainier after takeoff, was great as well.
But really, every flight is scenic in its own way.
Queenstown to Auckland is a spectacular flight over New Zealand
Views over the Maldives on my Seaplane ride from Male is the most beautiful one for me from an airplane!
beautiful
Gorgeous photos and video. A place on my bucket list.
Many years ago took nighttime KLM / NWA from Chicago ORD to Scipol and the route took us over the pole (well close enough) I was fortunate to have a windo seat on Port Side and treated to several hours of the Northen Lights. It was beyond stunning
I believe the Captain didn’t say anything for fear of pax wanting to get a look and maybe destabilise the aircraft. A memory I’ll never forget
My most beautiful flights were Bergen (Norway)-NY (Stewart) on a cloudless day seeing Iceland and Greenland.
Also, flying through the South of Chile, observing both the Atlantic and the Pacific and the endless ice fields.
Arrive in El Alto, Bolivia, the highest international airport in the world, with the city of La Paz on one side, which looks like a large crater on the lunar surface, and Lake Titicaca on the other side.
And any flight over Rio de Janeiro.
I almost forgot, in all my flights the most incredible image was that of McNaught’s Comet in the South of Chile in 2007, which seemed the size of the moon but with a giant and beautiful tail, everything I thought Halley’s Comet would be. Unbelievable!
Flying from Homer,AK to katmai island over old frozen volcanoes was cool. Landing in Cuzco was pretty beautiful as we were constantly below mountain peaks.
