The Perfect End to a LAX Mileage Run

Matthew Klint Posted onJanuary 11, 2013December 9, 2016 2 Comments

I mentioned last week that I had to take a last-minute year-end mileage run from LA to Boston on December 30th in order to secure the 5K miles necessary to push me over the 150K EQM mark.

The trip itself was fine—no sleep, but a productive redeye from Los Angeles to Houston. A quick stop in the United Club at Houston to grab a newspaper and a cup of tea as well as watch the sunrise. Then, breakfast and a nap on what turned out to be a quick flight to Boston. Five hours of work in the Boston ex-RCC United Club (where the staff remains great) then two totally unmemorable flights—a meager dinner and surly service from a legacy UA crew to San Francisco and an apathetic crew in a cabin filled with uniformed non-revs down to Los Angeles.

But when I got to LA, the true treat was waiting—In-N-Out of course!

I’m not a Double-Double animal-style type—just a plain hamburger and French fries for me. No shake either. But it was delicious!

A treat earned for a hard days work of 14 hours in the air. And no, I’m not overweight. Though a few more of these mileage runs and In-N-Out “after parties” might change that…

Great Post! You elevate navel-gazing to an art form. But, I like the way you incorporated working while mileage running. I echo the thoughts on legacy UA crews, sometimes they have the thousand yard stare of those that have seen too much combat.
