Turkish Airlines is in trouble: there is no question about it. In the last year, Turkey has been rocked by multiple terrorist attacks and a failed coup attempt. Many don’t feel safe even connecting in Istanbul. I’ve still made the case it is safe to fly Turkish Airlines and now Morgan Freeman is as well.
In a brilliant Super Bowl ad, Freeman attempts to assuage concerns about the safety of the Turkish flag carrier…without ever mentioning the “s” word. Emphasizing the warm service, great seat, and extensive route network of Turkish, the biggest selling point of the ad is the man in the seat.
In documentaries, movies, and public service announcements, Morgan Freeman is the man who clams you down with his distinctly reassuring voice. To me, the message of the commercial is clear — if Turkish Airlines is safe enough for Morgan Freeman, it is safe enough for you.
I love Turkish Airlines. While I don’t dismiss the concerns of many of my clients who refuse to fly Turkish, I do pushback and urge them to reconsider whether they are truly making a rational decision in refusing to fly Turkish. In weighing risk and gain, the answer is clear to me: TK is worthwhile.

I’ve flown them 4 times, no problems other than the extra security when transiting back to the US.
Agree that Turkish Airlines are amazing airline with great operations, but located in questionable country.
I have nothing against TK. But I won’t transit IST until the TSA stops SSSSing those who do.
They couldn’t find anyone else with a sense of wonder to fill the cabin so they had to multiply Mr Freeman?
You know, it’s interesting. I got the dreaded SSSS the last time I flew through IST. Thought it was an anomaly, but it sounds like it’s pretty common. If that’s the case, I’ll confess it will make me think twice about booking TK.
