United Airlines’ award winning mobile app is about to get even better, with the planned release of a new games section tomorrow which will include a flight simulator.
Flight Simulator In United Airlines App
Check the App Store tomorrow for the latest update to the United Airlines app, which will include a new section called Game Center. In addition to a Sudoku game, a new flight simulator will allow passengers to pilot a Boeing 787 aircraft. It will even have multiple levels to challenge your skills.
United’s mobile app is the best in the business, making it extremely easy to book flights, check-in, make changes, and upgrade. When it is time to board, you are notified and it will even direct you to your gate. Additionally, the app provides access to United’s onboard intranet system, which streams hundreds of movies and videos on demand. Those are particularly helpful on aircraft which do not have seatback monitors.
With the addition of games, the app further evolves as not only a tool for booking flights and downloading boarding passes, but for helping to get through a flight.
While United offers a large library of videos and movies and will now offer games, it does not offer music on-demand, instead offering a limited selection of audio tracks only on seatback monitors. This dates back to the Smisek era, in which United’s once-vast musical library was eliminated in a cost-savings effort. Hopefully United will eventually restore it.
CONCLUSION
United Airlines is adding a flight simulator to its mobile app. Download the update on 21 April and give it a try…I know I look forward to doing so.

Cool now would be fun to have CHANNEL 9 through the app on your flight
Yes!! Can we start a protest to bring back Channel 9???
Right before takeoff, stand up, run to the cockpit and frantically knock on the door while shouting, “turn it on!! Tur it on!!!”
30 years later, when you’re back on the outside, channel.9 will be back. Promise. LOL
For the humor challenged. This was written in sarcasm. Sheesh.
Hear, hear!!
YES. WHY WHY WHY? I miss Channel 9 so much. Matthew, we need a post on this to catch the eyes of United execs. Those were the best days listening to the cockpit. And it’s clear here that a lot of people would love to see its return.
Channel 9 is installed on most widebodies. Pilots are, for the most part, reluctant to turn the system on.
Love this!
Sounds fun, but it won’t be very fun if I have to start wearing a face muzzle again while playing this.
You can stay home and play while sitting on the throne.
United’s app is already best in the business, hands down.
I really like that they chose Kwajalein, the island you’re forbidden from taking pictures of, to be the poster shot of the new simulator.
Never mind, it appears that Matt chose the graphic. I need to read things more closely.
Later, there should be a Live and Let’s Fly review of the simulator.
This is not “the best app in the business”!!!
If a flight is “delayed” even by only 10 minutes, nothing works anymore in that app (check-in and similar).
If there are partner airlines involved (common on international flights), the apps point their respective digital fingers at each other.
Let alone that they would send the messages and notifications to the listed number!!!
Every time I eventually have to deal with UA customer service, and we all know how bad their wait (phone) and response tomes (email) are – if they even respond or pick up.
It has been very frustrating.
Interesting – the app can be annoying in not giving you full flexibility in case of irr/ops, but is generally very helpful and far better, IME, than AA or DL app.
IT IS TOMORROW WHERE IS THE FLIGHT SIM
They really need to update the livery in that picture.
That’s me – I used a retro livery. The actual sim will have the current 787 livery.
No flight simulator yet?
Not sure where it is – I downloaded the update and cannot find it.
