United Airlines is out with a simple but powerful new coronavirus ad that truly makes me want to fly.
The ad offer a series of metaphors linking different treasures of nature to different parts of our home. Imagery is beautiful, words are limited, and of course Rhapsody in Blue gently plays in the background.
The ad ends with a simple phrase:
“Can’t wait to have you back.”
You can watch the ad here:
I like United’s description of the video even better:
“When it’s time to leave your house, we’ll be ready to welcome you back home.”
This ad was published a week ago and somehow I missed it, but it is more timely today than ever.
While the future of airline travel is very much up in the air at this point, I think I speak for many of us in yearning for that day when we can freely…at least more freely than today…explore the world again.
From the front door of the St. Louis arch to the Antelope Canyon hallway to the New York City rooftop, there is so much just waiting to be explored once again. We may live in houses, but the world is our home.
Did you like the United Airlines coronavirus ad? Where is the first place you will visit once you start traveling again?

Stupid ad. Nonsense.
Stupid post.
Boring article and mediocre United ad!!
So long as the in-flight experience is materially degraded over what it was pre-COVID, these ads are useless.
100,000 dead and counting … but we’re here for you !
Disgusting … not only united but from all these companies that now want you to think “We are family” ….. No you are not my family … you are a multi-billion dollar company trying to sell me something, but people can’t see the bigger picture; instead they fall for the “We are family” crap.
Disgusting !!!!!
Nice view of St. Louis anyway…..
Angry much? Who do YOU blame for the 100k dead?
Pandemics happen. Death happens. Life will move on and hopefully return to normal. I for one appreciate the optimism.
Wow, tough crowd…
LOL
So United are making every effort under the sun to preserve cash, yet the found the budget for any kind of marketing?
Probably already a sunk cost in their quarterly ad budget.
Matthew must feel like the weakest member of the Donner Party today, lol.
Considering a trip to Denver in late June to road trip around Colorado a bit. I also booked a graduate fare on Alaska Airlines to Kalispell, to visit Glacier NP for 3 days
I believe if the federal government continues to not take the virus seriously enough, we are delaying deaths instead of preventing them. Therefore, I’m making the shift to be part of the economic recovery, a la masque on
Willem, what do you want the Feds to do?
Lock us into our houses like they did in Wuhan?
The people that made this ad for souless United are souless advertising whores.
I’d love to know why the travel naysayers are even paying attention to an aviation blog. I’ve found Matthew’s perspective to be invaluable over the past few months. Rather than sowing fear, he’s taken a balanced approach in sharing industry news and challenges along with efforts airlines are taking to make people feel safe.
I don’t begrudge United – or any company – for spending money on marketing right now. It’s more important than ever, especially in a world where most of us are stuck in the echo chambers of social media. Kudos to United for this beautiful ad. I can’t wait to be back on a plane and have already planned several trips for Q3 and Q4.
Thanks Alec.
It’s sentimentalist drivel at best.
Love it. Up there with some of the great ads from Turkish Airlines. Surprised that Kirby approved the expenditure, but still happy to see this.
i think very appropriate advert for todays times. Well done.
I must confess to being leery of schmaltzy puff pieces by many airlines at any time. The hypocrisy just brings out my gag reflex. BA and United tend to be the worst of a very bad bunch about this. They make awesome commercials while doing awful things to customers and employees. With the way United and BA have acted of late, ads like this are more reprehensible than normal. Nice PR if you buy what they’re selling I guess, but not for me.
I agree very boring post and United should be ashamed of themselves making flight attendants part time and taking gov money to spend on this nonsense. Shame on United. If you support united you clearly have no heart.
Where did you see this ad? I like it. Was this on Network Tv or cable? Or internet?
“We are family”…..unless the company disagrees with your family’s health choice….then your ass is out on the street, because United is more important then you.
