United Airlines is updating its domestic premium cabin amenity kits with new route-specific collaborations with smaller companies.
United Airlines Refreshes Amenity Kits On Key Domestic Routes
The amenity kit has been updated on both premium transcontinental flights and flights between Hawaii and the US mainland.
New Asutra Amenity Kits On United Airlines Premium Transcontinental Flights
United operates “premium transcontinental service” between Newark (EWR) and both Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO). These flights include an elevated level of service in business class (think lounge access, ice cream sundaes, amenity kits).
United replaces its Away-branded amenity its (in a transparent plastic pouch with Sunday Riley products) with a new soft pouch from Asutra, a company of which tennis star Venus Williams is a co-owner. The company is also woman-owned and Chicago-based, also where United is based. Contents include:
- face towelette
- lip balm
- “cruelty-free skincare made without any parabens, phthalates or petroleum”
- hand lotion
- made with magnesium to “help create a sense of calm” plus mango seed butter, coconut oil and almond oil to “soothe, moisturize and protect the skin while onboard.”
- bamboo toothbrush
- toothpaste
- Asutra-branded eye mask
- ear plugs
The pouch and eye mask are made with recycled materials and “a card inside the pouch offers inspiration for self-care practices while traveling.”
New Ua Body Amenity Kits on United Airlines Hawaii Flights
United offers amenity kits in first class on all its Hawaii flights.
The new United Hawaii amenity kits “bring the islands to flyers before landing,” with skincare from Ua Body, a brand owned, operated and made in Hawaii. Each kit includes:
- lip balm
- hand cream
- face mist
- all three feature local scents like sandalwood, jasmine, and coconut plus local ingredients like Kukui oil and Organic Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood oil
- eye mask
- bamboo toothbrush
- toothpaste
- ear plugs
The reusable Hawaii amenity kit pouch features artwork from local artist Christie Shinn. The pouch comes in four different designs featuring local landscapes and is made from recyclable material.
These will debut later this month.
CONCLUSION
United Airlines has updated its domestic amenity kits with new kits on premium transcontinental and Hawaii flights. I quite like the Christie Shinn artwork on the Hawaii kits.
My next post will address the tension I have with amenity kits. Specifically, I love them, but I hoard them and find them wasteful. I’ll talk about how I’ve moderated my use of them lately, how they just came in very handy, but how airlines find themselves in a situation that generally encourages waste.
