United Airlines Introduces Branded Face Masks For Employees

At United Airlines, face masks are about to become a uniform accessory. United is rolling out a branded, reusable face covering for most frontline employees starting next month.

New Branded Face Masks Coming To United Airlines

United Airlines was the first U.S. airline that mandated its flight attendants wear face masks and also the first airline to threaten to ban customers who refused to wear a mask.

Starting in August, employees will begin to receive United branded reusable face coverings. These masks will be distributed to:

  • Flight attendants
  • Customer service reps
  • Pilots
  • Ramp Employees
  • United Express flight attendants/pilots

A small group of customer-facing management and administrative (M&A) employees will also receive masks. The coverings will gradually become available throughout the system this summer.

The masks are a three-layer cotton design and Oeko-Tex certified.

United sets the average lifespan of each mask at approximately one month, so employees will initially be supplied with six coverings and will receive additional coverings later this year. Masks will be available in two sizes and include cleaning and wear instructions.

Employees will still be able to wear disposable face masks if they prefer. Employees can also continue to wear their own reusable face masks as long as they comport to United’s uniform guidelines.

Speaking of the new face coverings, United’s Chief Customer Officer Toby Enqvist said:

“Wearing face coverings is one of the most impactful things we’re doing to take care of our customers as well as one another. With your safety as a top priority, we’re happy to be able to offer you a safe — and stylish — face covering option to wear as the face of United.”

CONCLUSION

United becomes the first U.S. airlines to roll out branded face masks for employees. I think they look great and  I’m surprised other airlines have not already introduced their own branded masks.

At my house we’ve moved to cotton masks (versus disposable three-ply masks) and they make a huge difference in comfort and ease of breathing. United should put these new masks in customer amenity kits.

What do you think of the new face masks from United? Also, you saw it first here. Hat tips are appreciated…

Agreed, I much prefer the cloth masks with an inserted filter. Far more comfortable.

Back in March, when they couldn’t be had for love nor money, I made my own …using some old tees, coffee filter papers and strips of elastic. Seemed to work.

YOU SHOULD SELL THESE TO ALL EMPLOYEES. GOOD ADVERTISING EVEN THE “LOST ONES THE RETIREES”. IT WILL GET A CONVERSATION GOING AT A SOCIALLY APPROPRIATE DISTANCE. AND OF COURSE AT A RESONABLE PRICE. WE ARE AFTER ALL DOING ADVERTISING FOR THE COMPANY.

Wearing a mask to prevent the spread of a virus is like putting a chain link fence up to keep mosquitos out. They don’t work. And there is no federal law! Presidents don’t make laws.
