If you’re in New York City this evening, look up at the skyline. United will light two iconic New York City buildings blue at sunset to celebrate its return to JFK Airport after a five-year absence.
United Airlines Lights Up New York City Skyscrapers
Tomorrow, United Airlines returns to New York Kennedy with service to Los Angeles and San Francisco. It has been five years since United served JFK. I had the pleasure of flying on one of the last flights to JFK, which you can read about here.

To celebrate its return to JFK, United will light up two of Manhattan’s skyscrapers – One Bryant Park and One Five One West 42 – in “United blue.”
The two buildings will be lit up starting at 7:15pm ET on Saturday until 2 a.m. Sunday morning.

United’s Return To JFK
United will use its premium-heavy Boeing 767-300ER on all JFK routes. That aircraft includes Polaris Business Class seating in a 1-1-1 configuration, Premium Plus in a 2-2-2 configuration, United’s premium economy product, and United Economy in a 2-3-2 configuration. Within the economy class section is United’s EconomyPlus, economy seats with up to five extra inches of legroom toward the front of the economy class cabin.

- 22 premium economy seats
- 47 extra legroom economy seats
- 52 economy class seats

If you’re in NYC tonight, look up to the sky. United returns to JFK tomorrow and will celebrate by lighting the sky.

United has such a rich history of serving Idlewild and later JFK. I am so pleased to see the company returning to its New York roots. I hope JFK-LAX/SFO is successful for years to come.
The extra capacity will be used by escaping Residents. The Port Authority is already spending the bump in revenue. With the low yields in the market , AA is leaving and handing the flying to Blue. With the cost of doing business there are far more profitable markets to deploy assets to. Tyrants and regulators are slow to figure out the free market determines deployment of capital. With a huge tax and fee burden a jet can hardly takeoff with any profit from any NE airport. I still haven’t figured the AA International build up at PHL, a antique airport from the DC-3 days. I guess some left over US Scare management that thinks that delusion will attract customers. LOL.
