New United Airlines Ad: “Let’s Get Reunited, World.”

United Airlines is out with a new ad to draw attention to its three latest international routes additions. Although the new catchphrase, “Let’s Get Reunited, World,” seems a bit premature, it is incredibly poignant.

New United Airlines Slogan: “Let’s Get Reunited, World.”

In January, as coronavirus cases were surging in Los Angeles, Turkish Airlines erected a billboard at LAX with the phrase, “Time To Meet Again.”  At the time, I said:

Oh, this is sentiment that I concur with. In theory, though. Not practice. That’s because borders are still closed, the vaccination has not been rolled out to adequate levels, and the virus continues to spread at alarming rates, particularly in Los Angeles.

Still, I do look forward to that day when it is time to meet again. I greatly look forward to that day.

And today we are closer to that day. Over 40% of Americans have received their first vaccination and case numbers, though rising slightly over the last 14 days, have dropped precipitously from earlier in 2021.

Much of the world remains closed. Cases continue to surge in parts of Europe, Brazil, and India. Even in Chile, in which 40% of the population is vaccinated, cases are rising at an alarming rate.

So like the Turkish ad, “Let’s Get Reunited, World” is a bit premature. Still, the world is shaping up to be much more connected this summer than it was last summer. I’m planning to travel this summer, unlike last summer. Many of us are.

And so perhaps, even if not a present reality, United’s latest motto is an aspiration we can all work toward. That starts with vaccinations and caution. But it ends with the sort of travel that we often took for granted prior to the pandemic.

CONCLUSION

While Rhapsody in Blue is noticeably absent from the latest United ad spot, I can full sign on to the sentiment in this ad. I cannot wait to get reunited with the world!

You couldn’t pay me enough to visit Dubrovnik in the summer. Even with COVID, I’m sure it will be shoulder to should with tourists. Game of Thrones ruined the place and Ryanair and Easyjet were the final nail in the coffin. I can buy overpriced food, sweat in crowds, and deal with disgruntled restaurant workers much closer – it’s called Miami. Hard pass. Far more beautiful places that are less crowded and more authentic.

Have to agree, despite my love for Dubrovnik

Sigh. While it’s nice that United is going with such spiffy advertising of late I do wish that the company would exert equal effort to actually trying to be the best of the Big 3 instead of taking the Kirby route that tends to lead in the opposite direction.

Isn’t Split a viable alternative to Dubrovnik?

Awesome destinations! Way to go, United! Keep it up!

As for Dubrovnik being crowded, yes it is. I’ve found to find out what days the cruise ships are in port and either avoid those days or visit before or after they leave. Early morning and late evening are beautiful times to visit anyway.

    @Matthew

Chile’s numbers are rising because they are using the useless Coronavac vaccine. Even the Chinese want to ditch that one now as it simply doesn’t work

Finally a United commercial without “Rhapsody in Blue!” That has gotten really tiresome over the decades.

@Jaybird – Maybe it’s just because I’ve put 1.6M butt-in-seat miles on United planes, or maybe it’s because it was my college marching band audition piece (it’s a real show-off for a clarinetist), but I miss hearing Rhapsody in Blue on UA commercials. It has become unmistakably linked to UA.
