Later today I’ll publish my trip report from United’s final 747 flight, the last chapter in my multi-part series on the retirement of this great aircraft. In the meantime, United published its own trip report of the final flight in the form of a video.
While I don’t appear in this piece of history United history, I was happy to see my uncle in it. If you’re not a big reader, this video is a perfect substitute for a written trip report. It includes all the highlights of the flights and nicely captures the atmosphere onboard.
Notice the passion from the passengers, gate agents, FAs, and captains. Those who think, “Well it’s just an airplane” will never fully understand, but the 747 was special to every single passenger onboard. I don’t think anyone booked this flight by accident in the short 50-minute window it was available at the inflated price it was selling for.
I’ve been on “party” flights before like “Flyertalk1” with Captain Denny Flanagan but this was the first time an entire aircraft was a party. Truly, this was the flight of a lifetime.
CONCLUSION
Delta’s final 747 flight will be from Seoul to Detroit on Sunday, December 17th. I wonder if their party will top United’s?
