United’s Party at LAX for Inaugural Singapore Flight

Matthew Klint Posted onOctober 30, 2017November 14, 2023 9 Comments

United Airlines rolled out quite the red carpet for its new Los Angeles to Singapore flight on Friday. At 8,700 miles the flight is currently the longest flight from the USA and third longest flight in the world.

I arrived at 6:30p, and found a special banner and smiling agent marking the new service.

Inside the United Club, a Singapore flag was sitting at every desk. Below, Lorna smiles while holding one.

Atop the escalator was an arbor of white and red balloons, marking the national colors of Singapore.

Special catering to commemorate the new service to Singapore was available in the club, including many Singaporean favorites like roti parta, a dim sum and congee bar, and Singapore Slings at the bar.

We had a chance to visit the plane on the tarmac, prior to the pre-flight ceremony. I loved getting up close to the 787-9! The flight crew also came down for a group picture.

Back inside, speeches began–the usual fluff heralding the new service. The Singaporean Ambassador to the USA was even present.

More refreshments in the gate area as well:

Finally, it came time to board. At 17hr,55min it was going to be the longest flight of my life…

Stay tuned for the trip report.

Sushi sitting out for who knows how long. Never a good choice. Hope you didn’t eat that. Might have caused your illness.

Hope you are recovering. Get well soon!

If you look at the closeup, there are no raw fish product in the maki roll. Non fish maki rolls are sold at stores without refrigeration all the time.

Mike- thought the same thing as soon as I saw the room temperature sushi. Sounds like a recipe for food poisoning.

In any case, I did not eat of the sushi.

Considering my wife and son also called me sick, I think we can divert the blame away from United for this particular stomach flu.
