Cole Doss is one of the many new young new pilots at United Airlines. Recently, the United pilot had the chance to a fly to Madrid with a very special flight attendant…his mother.

United Pilot Flies His Mother For The First Time, A United Flight Attendant

Doss posted the following tribute on his Instagram page, which was then reposted by United Airlines on its Instagram page with the title, “When the person who used to pack your lunch is now your co-worker:”

The highlight of my career came to life when I was able to work a trip with my mom and fly her for the first time! She’s been my biggest supporter in becoming a pilot. We had the best trip to Madrid together. I’ll never forget this experience and everyone who helped make this possible.

It’s a very sweet video and a reminder that that our mothers are often so instrumental in shaping our careers. Their support can often be critical in giving us the confidence to chase our dreams. And in a material sense, there are few things more satisfying about parenthood than seeing your children become productive and successful citizens. I’d say flying a widebody jet for United mainline constitutes great success (especially with the pay raises coming…).

Nice job Cole: I appreciate your sweet tribute to your mother.

A few weeks ago on United flying on a 757 out of Dulles, the Captain announced that his son was the co-pilot. It was met with applause from the cabin. It is awfully nice to see some humanity once in awhile.

So unprofessional to give a speech like this to paying passengers. Keep it SOP. No one wants to hear you talk about you or your family. Stick to the script.

So sweet! Put a smile on my face. A more ‘human touch’ to the otherwise usual robotic announcements.

They must have fun dinners together discussing unions while laughing about the absurd pay scales coming and how to rip off the American taxpayer later (again) when it all goes south.

I flew with Cole as my First Officer when he was a new-hire and I know his mother well. Both are excellent people and I am glad they got to fly together. Great story.

I would be nervous and hit the wrong ‘flight controls’ if my parent(s) were on board! lol.

It all depends on the RELATIONSHIP you had with your mother if it was good or bad…
