Sweet Moment: United Airlines Pilot Emotionally Thanks Medical Personnel On His Flight

In a sweet moment captured on video, a United Airlines captain sincerely thanked medical volunteers heading to New York.

Prior to boarding a flight from Washington Dulles (IAD) to Newark (EWR), United Captain Jim Crail asked all medical personnel to stand before boarding so that they could be properly recognized. Other passengers in the gate area erupt into applause.

You can hear him tear up as he explains that his wife and the wife of the first officer are nurses and that everyone is grateful for the work of the brave volunteers heading to New York to help care for those stricken by COVID-19.

It’s a nice unscripted moment captured on video that is a reminder that the heroes or soldiers in this battle against COVID-19 are not infantryman with heavy munitions but medical staff risking their lives to help others or grocery store clerks or Amazon delivery workers who expose themselves each day to ensure we have food on our tables. These “essential” personnel are necessary and should indeed be saluted for their efforts.

Thank you for your kind post about this. You convey exactly what I was trying to say last Saturday. I hope every medical professional sees my comments and understands that I speak for many about their heroism in being willing to step into the breech in the battle against COVID-19.
