UPDATE: United Airlines has pulled this March 2024 saver award space from inventory
If you can clear off vacation for mid-March next year, United Airlines has made available enough saver award availability for the entire family, particularly in business class.
United Airlines Saver Award Space Is Wide Open Over Five Days In March 2024
Flagged by JT Genter and pushed by Elon Musk to the top of my Twitter feed despite JT’s refusal to pay $8/month for a blue checkmark, you’ve got a window of March 14-19, 2024 from which you can book space to virtually any United longhaul destination at the cheapest saver price in economy class or business class (and in some cases, premium economy too).
Frankfurt for 60K? Sure.
Sydney for 80K? Sure.
Cape Town for 70K? Sure.
My advice: book immediately, and cancel later if need be. United Airlines no longer charges a cancellation fee to redeposit MileagePlus awards.
This space is available in X class (economy) and I class (business) and therefore also bookable with any Star Alliance currency, such as Air Canada Aeroplan or Avianca LifeMiles.
With the current generous purchase miles promo going on right now, these business class fares come out to a small fraction of retail price.
It is not clear if this is deliberate or not, but it is certainly not an error. Although United no longer publishes award charts, the pricing is in line with typical “saver” level space on United’s own metal.
Happy booking!
Do tell us what you end up booking. Adopt me, too 😉
Nothing in or out of IAH to Europe in mid March. Fare buckets tight for Texas spring break. C starting at 155K each way
Error fares. Had CPT ready to book and went from 70k to 250k. Oh well.
Booked 4 biz SFO-SYD this evening. Thank you!
EWR to DUB ~75-77k in J could be fun in that specified timeframe
There’s never a bad time to go to Dublin!
Yes but I’m sure St Patrick’s in Ireland is extra special
A few of my close friends went a few times. Prepare to be blacked out for a week or however long you go 🙂
Any idea what causes a UR transfer to happen instantaneously vs taking 1-7 days? I was set to book a long haul but the transfer I requested yesterday didn’t go through instantly, and now the fare’s gone. I called Chase and they have no answer and won’t cancel the transfer either. I guess Farelock would have been possible but I hesitate to use that for speculative purchases.
So either they pulled the inventory or more likely, the seats all got snagged up. Regardless, this was likely an error. Not a mistake fare, but an error by United who nowadays virtually never releases biz saver award anymore. Heck they fly empty planes to Europe in January but nope, they won’t open saver awards in biz class. I don’t know why that is. I have now often observed the following (in winter when demand to Europe is low because biz travel has not returned and personal travel is highly seasonal): biz class is 80% empty up until a day or two before, eco also 50-60% empty. Then when the plane goes out, suddenly biz class is 100% full while eco is 60-70% empty and there are very few if any cleared upgrades (on the upgrade list). So how does that work exactly? Is United selling them for cash during checkin? That seems the only logical explanations. These aren’t all filled with cleared GPUs so it must be paid upgrades they offer the day before or at checkin.
More often inventory was pulled since there was 9s across the board in I and X class.
They’ll clear a bunch of upgrades 25 hours before checkin so they don’t show on the upgrade list
How does someone even find these deals. I’d love to have a way to search for future award mile deals (or even paid flights) for the flexible traveler.
