You may have noticed that the much-loved tapas snackboxes have not been available this month on United Airlines. They will return…but it might be awhile.
I wrote about the United tapas snackbox when first introduced in 201o and again earlier this year.
Contents include:
- Almonds
- Breadstick crackers
- Bruschetta
- Dark chocolate sea salt caramel
- Flatbread crackers
- Hummus
- Mint
- Olives
- Parmesan peppercorn spread
As I said in the past:
I’ve had better bruschetta. Better cheese spread. Better hummus. But you know something? This is a pretty decent snack. And it has been since United first introduced it.
No Tapas Snackboxes On United
This month, I have noticed myself and heard from others that the tapas snackboxes are not available. I’ve heard all sorts of rumors as to why and figured that rather than speculate, I would just ask United.
A United spokesperson told me:
United is committed to offering the highest quality meal and snack selections on our flights. Because one of the snackboxes did not meet our packaging expectations, we have voluntarily stopped boarding them to allow the manufacturer to quickly resolve this issue.
So there you have it. A packaging issue that is being resolved. Hopefully it will be resolved faster than the Denver catering issues that have plagued that station for years…
Will you miss the United tapas snackbox?
It’s the only one I ever eat, hope it’s back soon!
I just had one!! They are very delicious
Annoying. I believe this is the only one that’s vegetarian.
When it returns, you will have to pay $24 for it, or only $18 if you have 54 segments that year
Best comment! Love it.
Well isn’t this the pot calling the kettle black.
I don’t get it?
Mr. Matthew, I am constantly read your Life and Let’s Fly writings which are a source of wisdom for all travelers, especially on United Airlines. I am grateful for such an inside in knowledge and experience that You so freely shared. Now I find myself in need of a token from You. I try for 3 hours to purchase around ticket from San Antonio to Atlanta and I could not be connected to an American agent in the USA. Instead I was connected every time to one in the Philippines with bad connections. IS there, in your knowledge a direct phone number that I can called and purchase my ticket with miles? I appreciate your help. Elida Barnett
Elida, try this number: 800-756-8613. Only open 7AM – 6PM.
“Because one of the snackboxes did not meet our packaging expectations, we have voluntarily stopped boarding them to allow the manufacturer to quickly resolve this issue.”
I don’t read this as referring to the packaging necessarily, but rather its contents in part or whole.
i believe there was mold in the hummus – somebody posted a photo. hopefully it will come back soon. i always buy one if i’m landing late and spending the night at a hotel and don’t want to bother with dinner.
It would be my last meal if I was on death row!
They need to come up with another vegetarian snack box then. As a 1K flyer who gets a free snack in Econ, this was often my only lunch or dinner when I had tight connections and couldn’t grab a meal. This is a real bummer!
They’ve been on board the plane at least for the last several days.
