Watch Your Manners at Dubai International Airport

Matthew Klint Posted onNovember 13, 2010 Leave a Comment

A 34-year-old British man has been arrested and sent to jail for giving "the finger" to an airport worker at Dubai International Airport.

He got into a row with a female airport employee when she refused to let him use a customer services desk phone. A Dubai court heard he "cursed" the Muslim woman in front of colleagues then thrust his middle finger in her face as he passed through border controls.

The Brit, Paul Anthony, is a UN employee and was planning a six day stopover on his way back from Asia to the UK. After spending three days in the brig he was released on bail, but now faces deportation and a two-month prison sentence as he awaits his next hearing.

Moral of the story: watch your manners in DXB. Furthermore, it’s probably a good idea to avoid giving "the finger" at any airport, even if the TSA deserves it…
