One of the great things about living in Frankfurt is the ability to easily journey to another city or country by air, rail, or car. I have taken full advantage of that this year and my travels have taken me north to Hamburg this weekend.
My brother is in town for a few weeks and we had a friend’s wedding to attend in Siegbach today, about an hour north of Frankfurt. I had been thinking about either going to Riga, Latvia or driving to Prague this weekend, but since we were already on our way north for the wedding, I decided that I would show my brother Hamburg this weekend. As a matter of fact, I did not get to see much when I was on a business trip to Hamburg earlier this year, so the trip would allow both of us to get acquainted with Germany’s second-largest city.
The necessity of a car to get to the wedding made the plane vs. train vs. auto choice easy for us and we were pleasantly surprised to receive a courtesy upgrade to an Audi A6 this morning from Hertz. The only drawback was we only got it up to 220km/hr a couple of times on the four-hour drive to Hamburg due to A1 bridge work that constantly narrowed down the Autobahn to a single-lane on each side. We will try to find a better way back tomorrow…
I also had been meaning to try the Park Hyatt in Hamburg and this seemed as good a weekend as any to stay there. A full report will be forthcoming, but so far it has been another great Hyatt property.
As the days pass, I realize more and more how much I am going to miss living in Germany when I return to the U.S. in a few months. My goal remains to make the most of my time here, both at work and on the road.
