Another Heartwarming Christmas Surprise from WestJet

Christmas is one of my favorite times of year in part because of the many cherished traditions surrounding the holiday. One of them has become the annual Christmas video from WestJet.

Each year around this time WestJet releases a Christmas-themed video that digs deeper, even if in a secular sense, to the meaning of the holiday. This year’s video is another testament to remarkable qualities humans can display toward one another.

So start by watching it:

What a lovely testament to the goodness of the human spirit when we put others before ourselves.

I say “we” as if I would have done the same thing. That’s the humbling thing. I’m not sure I would have. I’ve been wanting to review WestJet business class aboard the 787 for this blog all year but have not yet gotten around to it. Had I been presented with a free business class trip, I wonder if I would have been so generous…

In the end, I expected those who gave their trips away to receive the trip anyway, or perhaps an even better one. That didn’t happen. And I think that is part of the beauty of this video. It appears these were real sacrifices, not made-for-TV faux sacrifices.

CONCLUSION

I’ve been enjoying WestJet videos since 2013 (below). This year’s video brought me to tears and I appreciate so much how WestJet uses its Christmas video each year to share a message of giving. Over the years, I have encountered the great joy that comes from giving. Still, kudos to the families who actually gave away their very generous gifts from WestJet. I can’t say for sure I would have made the same choice…

So honest question: would have taken the free flights or travel packages or given it away?

I can’t speak for Canada – however, in the United States, for all practical purposes, McDonald’s Corporation pays for all administrative expenses, including salaries and benefits of RMHC employees.

Other large companies, such as long-time McDonald’s partner, The Coca-Cola Company along with Southwest Airlines, Air BNB , the Royal Bank of Canada (parent of Los Angeles-based City National Bank) are some of the many large corporate donors to the RMHC.

In 2018, approximately $50 million dollars was raised throughout the United States via the collection boxes located within your local McDonald’s! All those dimes, nickels, quarters and pennies really add up.

WestJet is to be honored for their gracious donations and assistance to families in need throughout Canada – and having fun while doing it!
